Nine months in house arrest

Today the leaders of Iran’s Green opposition movement, Mir Hussein Mousavi, his wife Zarah Rahnavard and Mehdi Karroubi, have spent exactly nine months under strict house arrest.

In the beginning Karroubi’s wife, Fatemeh, was also kept under house arrest. She was however temporarily released this summer due to health problems. As far as I know she is now back in house arrest again.

BREAKING NEWS - Mir Hossein Mousavi, Mehdi Karroubi & Spouses Arrested & Transferred to Heshmatiyeh Prison

A few hours ago Kaleme - Mir Hussein Mousavi’s official website - announced that the two opposition leaders in Iran had been arrested. Here’s an English translation of Kaleme’s news article, translated by BanouyeSabz:

Monday February 28th 2011 - BREAKING NEWS -The leaders of the Green Opposition Movement in Iran Mir Hossein Mousavi, Mehdi Karroub and their spouses Zahra Rahnavard and Fatemeh Karroubi, have been arrested and transferred to Heshmatiyeh prison in Tehran.

According to the latest reports received by Kaleme, their arrest and transfer to Heshmatiyeh prison has been confirmed, however, the time and date of this transfer remains unclear.

The government of the Islamic of Iran had remained absolutely silent with regards to the recent restrictions and house arrest of the companions of the Green Movement, leading to much speculation and uncertainty regarding their whereabouts and well being. Mir Hossein Mousavi's daughters had also repeatedly tried to visit with their parents by going to Akhtar street [location of their parents' residence], only to face more ambiguity and contradictions and denied all contact with their parents. The lights to the residences of Mousavi and Karroubi were also off over the past few days. It looks as though the families of the Green opposition leaders Mousavi and Karroubi were denied contact with them in order to ensure secrecy regarding the location to which they had been transferred. The lack of news and refusal by government authorities to take responsibility for the events also sparked numerous media outlets to report on and question the whereabouts of the Green opposition leaders.

It is worth mentioning that Saham News, the website for Mehdi Karroubi reported that one of Karroubi's neighbors had witnessed their transfer from their residence at around midnight on Thursday. The eye witness reported the arrival of 8 security vans in front of Karroubi's residence and the entrance to the parking lot, stating that after a few minutes they all left the area in a car that left the parking structure.

In other news, after the contradictory and ambiguous reports regarding the recent illegal house arrest and restrictions on Mousavi, Karroubi and their spouses Iran's Attorney General stated today: "The Prime Minister during the 8 year holy war with Iraq [Mousavi], the two times former Head of the Parliament of the Islamic Republic [Karroubi] and their spouses have been arrested and transferred to Heshmatiyeh prison on orders of high ranking Iranian officials.

میرحسین موسوی و مهدی کروبی، به همراه همسران خود زهرا رهنورد و فاطمه کروبی ،دستگیر شده و به زندان حشمتیه تهران منتقل شده اند.

طبق آخرین اطلاعات رسیده از منابع موثق به کلمه، بازداشت و انتقال آنها به زندان قطعی است اما زمان دقیق انتقال آنها همچنان مبهم است.

پیش از این و در دوهفته گذشته مقامات کشور در مورد محدودیتها و نحوه حصر همراهان جنبش سبز سکوت اختیار کرده بودند. این مساله به مبهم شدن فضا و گمانه زنی ها دامن زده بود. دختران میرحسین نیز بارها با مراجعه به کوچه اختر با پاسخ های مبهم و متناقض روبرو شده بودند، و امکان هیچ گونه تماسی نیز برای ارتباط با پدر و مادرشان فراهم نشده بود. همچنین چراغهای خانه نیز در این چند روز خاموش بوده است. به نظر می رسد عدم اجازه تماس با خانواده ی موسوی و کروبی برای مطلع نشدن آنها از مکان موسوی و کروبی بوده است. این بی خبری و نیز مسوولیت ناپذیری مقامات در پاسخگویی به برخی اخبار در روزهای گذشته دامن زده بود.

در سوی دیگر سحام نیوز سایت مهدی کروبی اظهارات یکی از همسایگان مهدی کروبی را نقل کرده بود که می‌گفت نیمه شب پنج شنبه شاهد حضور هشت ماشین ون نیروهای امنیتی در مقابل ساختمان و ورودی پارکینگ منزل آقای کروبی بوده و پس از دقایقی همگی به همراه یک ماشین که از داخل پارکینگ درآمده محل را ترک کرده‌اند.

در این حال امروز و پس از اظهارات متناقض و مبهم دادستان کل کشور در مورد حصر و اعمال محدودیت بر آقایان موسوی و کروبی و همسرانشان، مشخص شده است: نخست وزیر هشت سال دفاع مقدس و رییس دو دوره مجلس شورای اسلامی به همراه همسرانشان و به دستور مقامات عالی کشور بازداشت و به زندان حشمتیه تهران منتقل شده اند.

Photo report showing the traces of bullet shots and severe damage to Mehdi Karroubi’s residence: Lat night for the fifth consecutive night the Basij and plain-clothes thugs while chanting slogans in support for the supreme leader attacked the residence of Mehdi Karroubi and wrote insulting slogans on his building walls such as “Death to Karroubi”. They opened fire and cut telephone lines, damaged water pipes, smashed the windows, put the entrance door on fire and severely vandalized the building while trying to terrorize Mehdi Karroubi, his family and neighbors. All this happened while the police and security forces did nothing to stop the pro-government thugs! According to SahamNews among the attackers there were notorious criminals who were intoxicated on the holy night of Qadr. These criminals were hired specifically to terrorize and destroy.

در حمله شب گذشته این افراد که شعار “خونی که در رگ ماست، هدیه به رهبر ماست” را مدام تکرار می‌کردند، شیشه‌ها و در خانه کروبی شکسته و جای گلوله در راهرو خانه و پنجره‌ها به وضوح دیده می‌شود. همچنین این افراد با قطع کابل‌، تلفن‌های خانه را نیز از کار انداخته‌اند.ا

Karroubi’s house under ‘siege’ for the fifth consecutive night

- and now it’s getting nasty.

A few hors ago the Twitter #iranelection feed bursted into a frenzy with news of violent attacts outside Karroubi’s house.
Some damage had already been done to the residence yesterday, and Saham News posted some images earleier today. An alleged video also emerged:

The thugs are shouting "Marg bar Karroubi!", "Death to Karroubi!".

At 18:50 GMT today reports were that the pro-regime crowd were throwing Molotov cocktails and Karroubi’s bodyguards firing shots into the air.

About an hour later reports came out that one of Karroubi’s bodyguards was taken to hospital.

At 20:30 GMT Mehdi Karroubi’s son Hossein spoke to Radio Farda before the family’s phone was cut off:

The home is completely blockaded. Our neighborhood is now just like the desert of Karbala (where Imam Hossein was martyred after being denied water for days) and occupied Palestine. The building is completely surrounded. There were gun shots fired directly at the building. The bodyguards in return fired some warning shots. All windows of the building are broken. They shot out all the street lights in the alley. Apparently some [assailants] were injured and ambulance has taken them [to hospital].

The situation is very chaotic now and the attackers are continuously chanting slogans and their attack word is “We are responding, O Khamenei”.

In a short message to the nation of Iran, in an effort to protect people's lives, Karroubi explicitly requested that people NOT come to the area of his residence. Karroubi stated "On this sacred night I accept what God has destined for me and I will continue to fight for the people's rights to the bitter end. According to SahamNews, minutes ago, Mehdi Karroubi's residence was once again brutally attacked by Basiji thugs. Following Fatemeh Karroubi's open letter of protest to Ayatollah Khamenei last night and as a result of the government's fear of Karroubi's potential attendance at the Qhods Day demonstrations, a large number of organized Basiji thugs once again gathered outside the Karroubi residence from around 10pm Tehran time tonight.

On the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Ali and Qhadr night, and in the presence of security forces that supported them, these individuals were allowed to disturb the public order and create discomfort for people leaving in the neighborhood who were fasting during the sacred month of Ramadan. According to the SahamNews Reporter on site, the thugs chanted slogans against Mehdi Karroubi and in support of the Supreme Leader, threw rocks and sprayed paint on the walls of the residential complex creating substantial damage to the building. In addition to breaking the windows and spraying the walls with paint, the Basiji thugs also vandalized the building's security cameras. The Basiji thugs affiliated with a neighborhood martyrs group (Shahid Mahalati) chanted slogans such as "If only Khamenei would give us the order to fight..." and "We congratulate the union of the United States and Karroubi", wreaking havoc and disturbing people's peace and quiet.

These individuals carrying all sorts of weapons had also engaged in similar activities during the past three nights with the intention to create fear and disturb public order and in particular prevent Mehdi Karroubi from participating at the Qhods Day demonstrations. It looks as though the ruling government is intent on using Basiji thugs and the Sepah (IRGC), doing everything possible to prevent Mehdi Karroubi from participating at the Qhods Day demonstrations. It is worth mentioning that as a result of last night's attacks in an open letter written to Khamenei, Fatemeh Karroubi had stated: "What do my husband's differences of opinion with you (a fact apparent to everyone) have to do with the right of my family to exist?"

سحام نیوز:دقایقی قبل منزل مهدی کروبی مورد حمله وحشیانه اراذل و اوباش بسیجی قرار گرفت. به گزارش خبرنگار سحام نیوز در پی نامه اعتراض آمیز شب گذشته فاطمه کروبی به آیت الله خامنه ای و همچنین ترس حکومت از حضور مهدی کروبی در راهپیمایی روز قدس، از ساعت ۱۰ امشب تعداد کثیری از اراذل و اوباش بسیجی در اقدامی هماهنگ واز قبل برنامه ریزی شده اقدام به تجمع در جلوی ساختمان محل سکونت مهدی کروبی نمودند. این افراد به نوعی از حمایت نیروهای انتظامی نیز برخوردار شده اند، بطوریکه در شب قدر و شب شهادت امام علی(ع) این افراد بدون هیچ گونه ابایی اقدام به بر هم زدن نظم عمومی و آسایش مردم روزه دار در این شب مبارک نموده اند. گزارش خبرنگار ما حاکی از آن است که این افراد با سردادن شعارهایی بر علیه مهدی کروبی و در حمایت از رهبری اقدام به پرتاب سنگ و پاشیدن رنگ بر روی ساختمان محل سکونت مهدی کروبی نمودند. اقدام این افراد موجب وارد آمدن خسارت های به ساختمان شد. این افراد علاوه بر شکستن شیشه های ساختمان اقدام به پاشیدن رنگ و دزدیدن دوربین های امنیتی ساختمان نمودند. این افراد اراذل و اوباش نظامی که وابسته به قرارگاه شهید محلاتی هستند با سر دادن شعارهایی همچون”وای اگر خامنه ای حکم جهادم دهد و … ” ” امریکا- کروبی- پیوندتان مبارک” و پرتاب سنگ و اشیاء مختلف به سمت ساختمان مسکونی، موجب بر هم زدن آسایش مردم منطقه شدند.

این در حالیست که این افراد همچون۳ شب گذشته با به همراه داشتن سلاح های گرم و سرد قصد ترساندن و ایجاد رعب و وحشت در اذهان عمومی و علی الخصوص جلوگیری از حضور مهدی کروبی در راهپیمایی روز قدس را دارند. گویا جریان حاکم با توسل به گروه های اوباشگر بسیجی و استفاده از امکانات بسیج و سپاه قصد دارد تا از هر طریق ممکن از حضور مهدی کروبی در راهپیمایی روز قدس جلوگیری بعمل آورد. لازم به یادآوریست که در پی حمله شب گذشته این افراد، فاطمه کروبی در نامه ای به آیت الله خامنه ای گفته بودند: اختلاف همسرم با جنابعالی در مسائلی که همگان بر آن واقفند چه ارتباطی با حق زیستن خانواده ما دارد؟

On Monday, 5 July, Iran’s ambassador to Norway, Seyed Hossein Rezvani, was summoned to the Foreign Ministry to receive a formal diplomatic condemnation of death sentences in Iran, in particular the case against Sakineh Ashtiani. On his way he was met by journalists and photographers.

He quite obviously did not like this, and in a comment to Dagbladet complains about the way he was treated. In the usual style we have got accustomed to from IRI officials, he tries to come across as the real victim and accuses everyone else of lies and disinformation.

Sakineh Ashtiani has been sentenced to death by stoning for alleged adultery, but ambassador Rezvani told Dagbladet that the case against her had not been decided yet, and denied that she will be stoned. He also claimed that stoning is no longer a practice used in Iran.

Other comments from Rezvani according to Dagbladet:

- State Secretary Espen Barth Eide did not have enough information about the case, so I had to update him.

- This is unacceptable. Especially since the matter is not settled, any criticism is premature.

- The legal process is still running, and any comment about her case will be to interfere in the independence of the judicial system in Iran.

- Norway shows a double morale. This is part of a political campaign to put pressure on Iran. It's an excuse to launch a political campaign against Iran.

- It would be better to discuss the topic in a meeting, or possibly via a simple phone call.

- It is unfortunate that it should go so far that I would be called to the Foreign Ministry.

- I asked Barth Eide if he would protect human rights rather than to launch political campaigns.

It sure is tough to be Iran’s ambassador these days. And if this wasn't enough the TV news continued torturing him till late in the night by setting this case up as number one.

Norway condemns death sentences in Iran

6 July, State Secretary Espen Barth Eide summoned the Iranian Ambassador, Seyed Hossein Rezvani, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with two death sentences in Iran.

Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani has been sentenced to death by stoning for infidelity, and Mohammad Reza Haddadi has been sentenced to death for an crime allegedly committed when he was a minor. The case of Majid Tavakkoli was also raised. Mr Tavakkoli has been imprisoned for his political activities as a student, and is serving his sentence in isolation.

Mr Barth Eide commented: “In my meeting with the Iranian Ambassador, I raised three specific cases, each of which are cause for grave concern. We view execution by stoning as an inhuman and barbaric form of punishment and we condemn it. The same applies to the use of the death penalty for crimes committed by minors. In addition, we take a very critical view of imprisonment for the expression of political views.

“Besides, these sentences are in violation of Iran’s obligations under its national law and under international conventions to which Iran is a party.”

In addition to these three cases, it was also emphasised that Norway opposes the death penalty in principle and in all circumstances, and that Iran has committed itself to following the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). Iran was also urged to discontinue stoning as a form of punishment.

Majid Tavakoli's Physical Condition Seriously Deteriorating

Sunday June 27th, 2010. According to reports by HRANA, even though Majid Tavakoli's physical condition has seriously deteriorated, to date, prison officials have done nothing to treat him. Tavakoli is a well known student activist in Iran, transferred to room #2 in Evin's general ward 350 on June 22nd, 2010.

HRANA reports that due to the harsh prison conditions and in particular Tavakoli's dry hunger strike while he was in solitary confinement in ward 240, he is now suffering from a serious lung condition that is rapidly deteriorating with the passing of each day.

The medicines Tavakoli been prescribed by a doctor is no longer sufficient. Dr. Behzadian Nejad, Tavakoli's prison mate, has recommended that he stop using them due to possible adverse consequences.

Majid Tavakoli is currently being held in room #2 at ward 350 in Evin (formerly room #5). Since his transfer he has only been allowed a 2 minute phone conversation with his family.

As a result of the recent construction efforts many of the imprisoned political prisoners have been transferred from other areas in ward 350 (particularly section 7 and 8) to area, that has more restrictions than other general wards in the prison.

It is worth mentioning that Majid Tavakoli a former student at Amir Kabir University in Tehran, was sentenced to 8 1/2 years in prison and has been incarcerated since December 7th 2009.

شرایط جسمی وخیم مجید توکلی در بند ۳۵۰

مجید توکلی، از فعالین معروف جنبش دانشجویی ایران که از اول تیرماه به بند 350 منتقل شده است، در شرایط جسمی نامساعدی به سر می برد و مسئولان نسبت به رسیدگی به وضعیت وی بی توجه اند.

بنا به اطلاع گزارشگران هرانا، آقای توکلی که به دلیل شرایط سخت زندان عموما و اعتصاب غذا در سلول انفرادی بند 240 خصوصا به نارسایی ریوی مبتلا شده است روز به روز شرایط وخیم تری پیدا می کند.

این روند تاجایی است که داروهای قبلی که توسط پزشک برای این زندانی سیاسی تجویز شده بود، دیگر جوابگوی وضعیت وی نیست و دکتر بهزادیان نژاد، هم بند وی، توصیه کرده که دیگر از این دارو ها استفاده نکند چرا که عواقب خواهد داشت.

مجید توکلی اکنون در اتاق 2 بند 350 (اتاق 5 قدیم) محبوس است و از زمان انتقال تاکنون تنها موفق به برقراری یک تماس 2 دقیقه ای با خانواده ی خود شده است.

مدتی است که علی رغم ساخت و ساز و شرایط نامطلوب بند 350، زندانیان سیاسی محبوس در سایر بندها (خصوصا اندرزگاه های7-8) را به این مکان منتقل می کنند. در این بند نسبت به سایر بندهای عمومی، محدودیت های بیش تری به زندانیان اعمال می شود.

لازم به یادآوری است که مجید توکلی، دانشجوی دانشگاه پلی تکنیک تهران، از 16 آذر سال 88 تاکنون در زندان به سر می برد و با حکمی 8 و نیم ساله مواجه است.

Tehran Governor on why permit for 22 Khordad demonstration was denied

Governor of Tehran - "Give me one good reason why we should have issued a permit for this demonstration."

The Governor of Tehran stated "A permit has not been issued for the planned demonstrations this Saturday 22nd Khordad (June 12th). According to reports by ISNA, Morteza Tamadon, Governor of Tehran made the following comments to a local reporter during his early morning visit to the city of Qods: "The conspirators have received a large blow by the Iranian nation. Now that their sinister plans to confront the sacred Islamic Republic are dead, they have resorted to psychological warfare
and intend to harass people and disturb public interest and have requested that the Governor grant a permit for an unrealistic demonstration."

Tamadon continued: "Their request was presented in the form of a letter. This letter provided no legal guarantees, and before it was even presented to the Governor's office, it was published on various domestic, anti government sites. We saw no reason what so ever to provide a permit to demonstrate that would disturb a calm society focused on working and making a living. They [the opposition] have continued to disseminate a big lie and insist that the people's election was fraudulent."

He added "If these people have requested a permit to march so that they can celebrate on the 22 of Khordad (June 12th), then we should call this celebration by its real name "a lie". The nation of Iran will never forgive them for their sins and some day they will have to pay for their illegal actions in a court of law."

Tamadon went on to say " It is laughable to even think about providing a permit for a demonstration on the 22nd of Khordad and as such their request was denied. Any illegal acts on this day, designed to disturb public order and harass the people will therefore not be tolerated and will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

With regards to the rumors that schools and businesses will be closed on Saturday, the Governor responded "This too is a humorous comment and must be dismissed. It is a rumor devised by the heads of the conspiracy; another means of psychological warfare. The Iranian people are fully aware that this joke is intended for those who live abroad and is far from the reality. Tomorrow all schools and businesses will remain open. Universities will continue with their year end exams in a calm and normal atmosphere and businesses will function as usual."

Tamadon concluded "The conspirators need to begin reflecting about themselves and their future. This type of rhetoric and gossip will only solidify their dark record in the eyes of the Iranian nation. God willing, soon we will witness the demise of the conspirators and those from whom they take orders."

چکیده : بحث خنده‌آور راهپیمایی در 22 خرداد موضوعیت نداشت، لذا برای روز شنبه مجوز هیچ‌گونه تجمعی داده نشده و هر حرکت غیرقانونی که در راستای اخلال در نظم عمومی جامعه و ایجاد مزاحمت برای مردم باشد تحمل نخواهد شد و برابر قانون برخورد می‌شود.

استاندار تهران گفت: هیچ مجوزی برای تجمع در روز ۲۲ خرداد صادر نشده است.

به گزارش ایسنا، مرتضی تمدن صبح امروز در حاشیه بازدید از شهرستان قدس در مصاحبه با خبرنگاران محلی در پاسخ به سوالی درباره صدور مجوز تجمع فردا گفت: جریان فتنه بعد از ضربات پی‌درپی که از ملت ایران خورد و پس از این‌که نقشه‌های شوم‌شان برای مقابله با نظام مقدس جمهوری اسلامی ایران به بن‌بست رسید، اخیرا دوباره جنگ روانی به راه انداختند و قصد دارند برای مردم و منافع عمومی ایجاد مزاحمت کنند، لذا درخواست راهپیمایی غیرواقعی از استانداری تهران کردند.

تمدن افزود: در همین راستا نامه‌ای فاقد شماره برای استانداری ارسال کردند و هیچ گونه پیگیری نکردند.

وی افزود: این نامه مستند به هیچ ضمانت قانونی نبود و قبل از این‌که به دست استانداری برسد ما آن را در سایت‌های ضد انقلاب و برخی سایت‌های داخلی ملاحظه کردیم.

استاندار تهران گفت: هیچ گونه دلیلی نبود که ما در برابر فضای عمومی جامعه که فضای آرامش و کار و کوشش است مجوز راهپیمایی بدهیم.

تمدن با طرح این سوال که به چه دلیلی باید به این راهپیمایی مجوز می‌دادیم؟ گفت: این‌ها یک دروغ بزرگ در راستای انتخابات مردمی مطرح کردند و آن هم دروغ بزرگ تقلب بود.

وی گفت: اگر این افراد می‌خواهند با این تقاضا راهپیمایی ۲۲ خرداد را جشن بگیرند، باید اسم آن را جشن دروغ بگذاریم، زیرا با حرکات ناروا مرتکب گناه شدند و در پیشگاه ملت هیچ‌گاه بخشیده نخواهند شد و روزی باید در پیشگاه عدالت و دستگاه قانونی پاسخگوی کارهای خلاف قانون خود باشند.

وی افزود: فردا هیچ اداره‌ای تعطیل نیست و امتحانات مدارس و دانشگاه‌ها در فضایی کاملا عادی و آرام برگزار می‌شود و ادارات نیز به کار خود ادامه می‌دهند.

تمدن افزود: ‌فتنه‌گران بهتر است برای خود فکری بکنند، زیرا با این حرف‌ها و شایعات و خودسری‌ها نمی‌توانند کارنامه بسیار سیاه خود را نزد ملت ایران پاک کنند و ان‌شاءالله به زودی شاهد سقوط آنها به همراه اربابانشان باشیم.

In the name of God, the Compassionate and the Merciful

The informed and vigilant people of Iran

The informed and conscientious presence and participation of you at polling stations of the tenth presidential election last year and taking advantage of the right to vote extensively by each one of you was a great move and an everlasting epic that would have returned the country’s future path from the dreadful downhill, in which it was captive and today has become more obvious, to a bright future and the climax of prosperity that the great nation of Iran deserves, but unfortunately tainted hands falsified your pure votes and the results were announced in such a way that shocked everyone and initiated the unified protests of you informed people in order to get back your lost right, however great sadness that your peaceful presence and rallies, instead of being heard and paid attention to, was suppressed and you forever glorious nation paid dearly over the past year to get back your stolen right. Your great and unforgettable rally on Khordaad 25 (June 15) of last year is the evidence of the truth that even passage of time cannot reduce its value. The justified expectations of you dear people prompted us that to request to have a rally for the anniversary of the unforgettable day of Khordaad 22 (June 12, the anniversary of tenth presidential election) in the national epic of election in order to safeguard that stolen epic and to follow-up on the justified demands of a prosperous nation that despite all suppressions did not wash hands from peaceful ways and hopefully seeks a bright future for its county and the country of its children. So we also based on the Article 27 of Islamic Republic’s constitution that clearly states the unconditional right of the people to hold [peaceful] protests and demonstrations and in order to prevent tension, not giving any excuses to the repressors and providing safety and security of the people, handed in the letter of request for permit to hold demonstration on the anniversary of epic 22 Khordaad (12 June) from Imam Hossein Square to Azadi Square to the office of the Governor of Tehran and the Interior Ministry in a timely manner but unfortunately with endless made up excuses this request has been stayed unanswered.

Therefore a number of reformist parties and groups in order to eliminate the made up excuses handed in a similar request to the Interior Ministry which the trend of that process and the final answer of the Interior Ministry to this request has been stated in the latest letter of the representatives of reformist parties, and they have announced that they have no hope to obtain any permit from this administration.

Now that there is only 48 hours left to the time planned for the demonstration, by considering the report of the representatives of reformist parties [who were following up on the request for permit] and also for the safety of the people we are announcing that the planned demonstration will not be held. It is obvious that with the dark history of the past year in repressing the protestors who their only crime was to demand their vote in a peaceful manner and also the reports received indicating that once again hardliners and repressors are being organized to attack the defenceless and innocent people, we ask the people and the protesters to demand and follow up on their rightful demands and requests through less costly and more effective methods.

It is self-deceptive and naive to believe that in your artillery with all the threats, insults and lies you were able to repress and subjugate people’s protest movement. Despite the deafening claims of the so-called national TV and Radio stations and the pro-government press giving the impression that the protesting forces of the Iranian people’s movement has diminished, the very same individuals involved in these claims as well as the policy makers more than anyone realize this fact that the movement is alive and the true honour of it belongs to those who despite all the threats and dangers, the insecurities and also knowing the potential life threatening and financial consequences still have not given up on their rightful protest and even their simple announcement of demonstration makes the repressors shiver from fear and follows the wide scale and comprehensive security and police mobilization.

This is the tradition of an illegitimate government that does not give permit to hold demonstrations to anyone but to their own supporters but given all these the path that you the great nation of Iran have chosen cannot be blocked; and you will brighten your role in this path with creativity and we also in all aspects until the emergence of the bright morning of tomorrow will be with you and will accompany you.

حضور و مشارکت آگاهانه و مسئولانه شما در پای صنوق های اخذ رأی دهمین دوره انتخابات ریاست جمهوری در سال گذشته و بهره گیری گسترده از حق رأی برای تعیین سرنوشت توسط یکا یک شما، حرکتی عظیم و حماسه جاودانه بود که می رفت مسیر آینده کشور را از سرازیری مخوفی که گرفتار آن بود و امروز آشکارتر شده است به سمت افق های روشن و قلّه های افتخار که شایسته ملّت بزرگ ایران است برگرداند که متاسفانه دستان نا پاک در آراء پاک شما دست برده و نتیجه به گونه ای اعلام شد که موجب حیرت همگانی گردید و اعتراضات یک پارچه شما مردم آگاه در جهت احقاق حق از دست رفته را برانگیخت ولیکن صد افسوس راهپیمایی و حضور مسالمت آمیز شما به جای آنکه مورد توجه و رسیدگی قرار گیرد سرکوب شد و شما ملت همیشه سربلند هزینه های بسیاری را در طی یک سال گذشته برای احقاق حق به یغما رفته خود پرداخته اید. راهپیمایی بزرگ و فراموش نشدنی شما در ۲۵ خرداد سال گذشته سند حقانیتی است که گذشت زمان نیز نخواهد توانست از اعتبار آن بکاهد. انتظارات به حق شما مردم عزیز ما را بر آن داشت که جهت پاسداشت آن حماسه به یغما رفته و پیگیری مطالبات به حق ملّتی سرافراز که علیرغم همۀ سرکوب ها دست از روش مسالمت آمیز بر نداشته و امیدوارانه آینده روشن را برای کشور خود و فرزندان خود طلب می کنند برای سالگرد روز فراموش نشدنی ۲۲ خرداد در حماسه ملی در انتخابات تقاضای برگزاری راهپیمایی بنمائیم. ما نیز طبق اصل ۲۷ قانون اساسی جمهوری اسلامی که بر حق بی چون و چرای ملت در تظاهرات و اعتراض صراحت دارد و با هدف جلوگیری از بروز تنش و گرفتن بهانه از دست سرکوبگران و تأمین امنیت انتظامی ملت، درخواست برگزاری تجمع و راهپیمایی در سالروز حماسه ۲۲ خرداد از میدان امام حسین تا میدان آزادی را در موقع مقتضی تسلیم استانداری تهران و وزارت کشور نموده که متاسفانه با بهانه تراشی های متعدد این درخواست بی پاسخ مانده است.ا

لذا تعدادی از احزاب و گروههای اصلاح طلب جهت رفع بهانه جوئی ها درخواست مشابهی را به وزارت کشور ارائه دادند که سیر آن و پاسخ نهائی وزارت کشور به این درخواست در نامۀ اخیر نمایندگان و احزاب اصلاح طلب آمده است و آنان اعلام کرده اند امیدی به اخذ مجوز از این دولت ندارند.ا

اکنون در حالی که ۴۸ ساعت به زمان پیش بینی شده برای راهپیمایی باقی نمانده است با عنایت به گزارش نمایندگان احزاب اصلاح طلب و نیز جهت حفظ جان و مال مردم اعلام می داریم راهپیمایی پیش بینی شده برگزار نخواهد شد. بدیهی است با سابقه سیاه یک سال گذشته در سرکوب معترضانی که تنها جرمشان طلب نمودن رأی خود به شیوه ی مسالمت آمیز بود و همچنین اخبار رسیده از سازماندهی مجدد افراطیون و سرکوبگران در جهت یورش به مردم بی دفاع و مظلوم، از مردم و معترضان می خواهیم خواسته و مطالبات به حق خود را از مجاری کم هزینه تر و موثرتری دنبال کنند.ا

این خودفریبی و ساده انگاری است که تصور شود با تهدید و تحقیر و دروغ در توپخانه هایتان توانسته اید حرکت اعتراضی مردم را منکوب و سرکوب کنید. علیرغم ادعاهای کرکننده رسانه به اصطلاح ملی صدا و سیما و مطبوعات حامی دولت مبنی بر تحلیل رفتن نیروهای جنبش اعتراضی مردم ایران، خود دست اندکاران و سیاستگذاران بیش از هر کس به این نکته واقفند که جنبش زنده است و افتخار واقعی از آن کسانی ست که علیرغم همه تهدیدها و مخاطرات، نا امنی ها، علم به عواقب احتمالی مالی و جانی هنوز از اعتراض بحقشان دست نکشیده اند و حتّی یک اعلام حضور کوچکشان، وحشت بر سرتاپای سرکوبگران می اندازد و لشگرکشی همه جانبه انتظامی و امنیتی را به دنبال می آورد.ا

و این رسم دولتی نامشروع است که جز به موافقان خود مجوز راهپیمایی نمی دهد با این حال راهی را که شما ملّت بزرگ ایران برگزیده اید مسدود شدنی نیست و شما خلّاقانه نقش آفرینی خود را در این مسیر متجلّی خواهید ساخت و ما نیز در همه حال تا رسیدن صبح روشن فردا در کنار و همراه شما خواهیم بود.ا

Zahra Rahnavard: I hope to give my life for democracy and freedom

With her floral Turkmen head scarf and jean shirt worn under her black yet lacy chador, Zahra Rahnavard has been quickly transformed into the most recognized and well known woman in Iran during the elections of the past 30 years. Her image, even more than that of her husband's, Mir Hossein Mousavi, the candidate for the presidential elections in Iran, has not only been the focus of attention on numerous occasions both by domestic and foreign media outlets, but also has become a hot discussion topic amongst both her supporters and those who appose her. She has been attacked many times both by her own opponents and by those who appose her husband...

Dr. Zahra Rahnavard, artist, sculptor, and university professor, viewed by many social and political activists as a well known advocate for culture, art and politics was asked whether she was satisfied with the manner in which her husband defended her during last year's presidential debates.

He repeatedly apologized to the Iranian women. In response to attacks by the apposing election candidate on to his wife (Zahra Rahnavard), Mr. Mousavi stated that he views her as the most open minded Iranian woman. Ms. Rahnvard's response to this comment is as follows "Mr. Mousavi's comments were symbolic. He may view me as an example amongst many Iranian women, as he [Mousavi] has a lot of respect for all Iranian women."

When ever someone asks Ms. Rahnavard about her husband Mr. Mousavi, she responds "I am first and foremost Rahnavard and then Mousavi's wife."

Ms Rahnavard how did you and your husband endure the constant pressure of the past few months on your lives?

This past year the people of Iran have been exposed to all types of pressure and hardship, only for asking the question "where is my vote?". This question could have been answered by the ruling government in a legal and peaceful manner. However, the ruling government chose to respond in a most oppressive manner to such a simple and democratic question, arresting and imprisoning and firing bullets at those who dared to pose such a question. Today the demands of the people of Iran are freedom, democracy, rule of the law and free and fair elections. These demands are much more extensive than those presented during the initial protests. It is therefore only normal that when our people are experiencing such hardship, that I, Mr. Mousavi, Mr. Karroubi, Mr. Khatami and their families also face physical trauma, or numerous shocks and charges.

Almost one year ago, you were certain of victory in the elections. Today, under the current circumstances, how do you feel when you look back at those days? Do you feel a sense of anger, surrender, hope or sadness?

Iran's Green movement seeks prosperity for all Iranians. This when the current ruling government has only lead to further poverty, threatening the fundamental freedom of our people. The past elections were a golden opportunity that was taken away from the people of Iran and this is a real pity.

You and your husband experience constant threats on your lives. Are you not afraid? Do you not feel in any danger? Have you ever thought about leaving your country?

I have never once pondered leaving Iran. Of course before the revolution in Iran, due to the oppression and political limitations under the Shah's regime I was in the United States and along with my husband was active in organizations such as the Islamic Students of Iran, both in the U.S and in Europe. Today we have been transformed from simple people to well known, effective individuals. Now, much more than in the past, our destiny and future is intertwined with the destiny and future of the nation of Iran. Iran is the place I have selected to live in and to die in. The rest is up to God. With regards to fear, I have never feared any individual or regime in my entire life. I will only fear God when I have not met my responsibilities as a free human being. In comparison to the past, Mousavi is also speaking with courage and much much more daringly. He will never compromise his ideals.

The street protests were much more extensive than predicted and expected by many. Your husband was transformed from a "highly specialized and technical " individual to a beloved and charismatic leader. Was this more than he expected? Did you knowingly submit yourself to the Iranian people's movement?

When it comes to the 10th presidential elections held last year, Mousavi, the nation of Iran and I had many expectations. Everyone was looking for improvements in the country's conditions and fundamental change. Individual freedom, lack of interference in the daily lives of the women and men of our nation, freedom, democracy and the rule of law, were only some of the demands and dreams of our nation. The people's protests and our collaborative action have been based on mutual desires. However, one thing cannot be denied, that the Iranian people have always been ahead of us and leading us towards their ideals. When the ruling government refused to respond to a natural question by the people of Iran such as "where is my vote?", resorting to imprisonment, arrests and bullets, then it was only natural for ordinary individuals to become well known and beloved symbols. Mousavi is only one such individual fortunate to have been embraced by the people of Iran.

Are any discussions currently taking place with the ruling government? Are there any attempts to improve the tension and improve current conditions?

Everyone is open and willing to work on resolving the current tensions and difficulties. Unfortunately the ruling government is only after violence. They only seek to oppress and imprison those who criticize and protest. It seems that they are not interested in solving the problems. I believe that based on their current behavior the ruling government is trying to over throw the Islamic Republic; something that neither I, Mousavi, Karroubi or the people of Iran are after. As such, under these circumstances, there can be no discussions.

I would like to emphasize that the Green movement is a reform seeking and peaceful movement. The 22nd, 25th and 30th of Khordad are three important dates in the Green movement of the people of Iran and the presence of millions in the streets on these days will be good news for the future victory of the movement.

What message would you like to give to the world on behalf of the Green movement? What can the world do to help and what actions should they refrain from?

The Green movement and the demands of the people are completely national, Iranian, people based and internal to Iran. They are not dependent on or associated with any forces outside of Iran. However, the progressive thoughts of the world should naturally be towards protecting the rights of countries and the world wide support of those who seek freedom. Though the public abroad must be careful that their governments support the freedom fighters in Iran in their dealings with the Iranian government, in the end the people of Iran are responsible for their own destiny and resolving their issues.

In the past months there have been many reports of executions, rapes and violence against prisoners. How do you react to these issues? Would you like to express your thoughts regarding these matters?

I am fundamentally against any form of violence against anyone. In Iran and within the Green movement we have groups such as artists, journalists, human rights activists, student activists, sports personalities and other groups such as teachers, workers, students and women's organizations. In addition, tribes and races with a variety of languages and religions live in Iran, all of which can be used as a good opportunity for Iran and the ruling government in Iran, that is, if they take them all under their wings. National unity can be emphasized and made stronger all while respecting the diversity, cultural, ethnic and linguistic rights of the minority who live in Iran. Only then will we witness no violent acts by any group, or people in Iran. I am against any form of violence, including executions. More importantly, the procedures leading to executions should be reviewed. It is important for me to believe that these executions were necessary and based on legal rights and not politically motivated.

If you were to predict today, how do you think this tug of war will end?

Our nation will be victorious and will reach their ideals. This success is because of the stability, strength and resilience of the people and reflects their knowledge and awareness. The rights of the people will prevail even if it takes time.

A modern world does not tolerate dictatorship and tyranny. The digital world of the internet and information dissemination is a world that demands democracy, freedom and personal expression and Iran is part of this world.

Have you ever thought about giving up?

Never! Why would I ever have such an ominous thought? I have committed myself to God and I am hopeful to shed the last drop of my blood in the cause of freedom and democracy. The rest is in the hands of God.

You are a symbol for many women who have entered the scene. What would you like to say with regards to the role of women in the Green Movement?

The current ruling government has focused on oppressing women over the past year. I experienced this personally for the first time this year. The head of their government attacked me in a television debate with Mousavi, questioning my character; although this behavior only led to him being the laughing stock of the nation. Women have been one of the staunch supporters of the Green movement as such the ruling government has focused on oppressing women. However, this oppression has had no affect on their resolve and they have not backed down.

The demands of the women in Iran are twofold 1) National demands such as freedom, democracy, the rule of the law, freedom of political prisoners, right to individual freedoms 2) Elimination of discrimination and strengthening of cultural rights, women's rights and equal rights under the law.

As I have said repeatedly in the past, democracy is not possible without women and without paying attention to the demands of women.

Have the nuclear issues had any effects on the conditions that occurred after the elections?

The ruling government takes advantage of the nuclear issue. On the surface they make strong statements but in the end they cooperate and seek negotiations with other countries. This is due to their utter lack of legitimacy. Because of their lack of legitimacy inside Iran, on an international level they make concessions towards other countries in order to build legitimacy for themselves. However, when a nation is not in sync with its own government, that government has no prestige anywhere in the world. I am hopeful that the people of Iran will prevail and that we can bring democracy to the people of Iran as soon as possible.

بارها از زنان ایرانی پوزش خواست .مهندس موسوی در برابر حمله های تند رقیب انتخاباتی اش در باره همسرش (زهرا رهنورد) او را روشنفکرترین زن ایران لقب داده بود .خانم رهنورد در این باره می گوید :"کلام آقای موسوی یک حرف نمادین بود.شاید مرا نمونه ای از همه زنان ایرانی تلقی کرد.چون او احترام زیادی برای زنان قائل است."
هر وقت کسی از رهنورد در باره همسرش موسوی سوالی می پرسد، پاسخ می دهد: من اول رهنورد هستم سپس همسر موسوی

خانم رهنورد در ماه های گذشته، تحت فشار دائم، بر شما و همسرتان چه گذشت و چگونه اين دوره را زندگی کرديد؟

به مدت یک سال مردم ایران زیر انواع و اقسام فشارها به سر می برند . زیرا فقط پرسیده بودند که رای شان کجاست ؟ این پرسش می توانست از طرف حاکمیت بطور قانونی و مسالمت آمیز پاسخ داده شود . اما حاکمیت فعلی در برابر این سوال ساده و دموکراتیک استبدای ترین رفتار را انجام داد و مردم سوال کننده را دستگیر و زندانی کرد ، به روی آنها اتش اسلحه گشود. امروز مطالبات مردم ایران آزاد ی، دموکراسی ، قانون گرایی و انتخابات آزاد است . این خواسته ها بسیار گسترده تر از اعتراضات اولیه است . پس طبیعی است وقتی مردم ما در چنین شرایط سختی به سر می برند ، من و موسوی و کروبی وآقای خاتمی و خانواده های ما، هر یک زیر ضربات فیزیکی یا اتهامات و شوک هایی متعدد قرار بگیریم .

در يک چنين روزهائی، تقريباً يکسال پيش، اطمينان به پيروزی در انتخابات داشتيد: با نگاه به اين گذشته، چه احساسی نسبت به آن دوران داريد؟ آيا احساس غضب می کنيد؟ احساس تسليم؟ احساس اميد؟ يا احساس اندوه؟

جنبش سبز ایران در پی سعادت و رفاه مردم است . این در حالی است که حاکمیت فعلی روز به روز بیشتر از گذشته موجب فقر و مکنت مردم و تهدید آزادی های اساسی شده است . انتخابات گذشته فرصت بسیار خوبی بود که از مردم ایران گرفته شد و این مایه تاسف است .

شما و همسرتان بصورت دائم در شرائط تحديد بسر می بريد. آيا ترس داريد؟ خود را در خطر حس می کنيد؟ هرگز فکر کرده ايد که کشورتان را ترک کنيد؟

هرگز به ترک ایران نیاندیشیده ام . البته من ، پیش از انقلاب ایران ، به دلیل انسداد سیاسی و سرکوب های رژیم شاه در آمریکا بودم و فعالیت خارج از کشور را به همراه همسرم در آنجا و از طریق فعالیت در انجمن های اسلامی دانشجویان ایران در آمریکا و اروپا پیگیری می کردیم . اما امروز ما از یک فرد ساده به یک افراد شاخص و موثر تبدیل شده ایم . سرنوشت ما بیش از گذشته به ملت ایران و آینده آن گره خورده است . ایران جایی است که من ان را برای زندگی و مرگ خودم انتخاب کرده ام . تا خدا چه بخواهد .اما در مورد ترس : هرگز در زندگی خود از هیچ فرد ویا نظامی نترسیده ام . انگاه که به مسئولیت های خودم به عنوان یک انسان آزادی خواه عمل نکرده باشم من فقط از خدا می ترسم . موسوی هم در مقایسه با گذشته با شجاعت و جرئت بیشتری صحبت وعمل می کند و هرگز از آرمان هایش کوتاه نخواهد آمد .

احتمالاً تظاهرات خيابانی، بيش از آنکه از سوی اغلب اشخاص پيش بينی می شد و انتظار ميرفت، به پيش رفت. همسر شما يک شخص "فنی و متخصص بود"، که به يک رهبر محبوب و پرجذبه تبديل شد... آيا اين پيشروی و پيش رفت بيش از آنی بود که خود ايشان انتظار داشت؟ آيا شما خود را به دست اين جريان در حال حرکت سپرديد و يا آگاهانه انتظارات ملت را دريافتيد؟

در جریان انتخابات دهم ریاست جمهری ایران و در سال گذشته ، هم من و هم موسوی و هم ملت ایران انتظاراتی داشتیم . همه خواهان بهبود اوضاع کشور و تغییرات اساسی بودیم . احترام به آزادی های فردی ، عدم دخالت در زندگی زنان و مردان این سرزمین ، ازادی و دموکراسی و قانون گرایی .این ها بخشی از خواسته ها و آرزوهای ملتمان بود . اعتراضات و کنش مردم و ما بر یکدیگر تاثیر متقابل داشته است . اما این یک واقعیت است که مردم از ما جلوتر هستند و ما را با خود به سوی آرمان های شان می برند . وقتی حاکمیت حاضر نشد به این پرسش طبیعی مردم ایران که " رای من کجاست " ، پاسخ دهد و به جای پاسخ قانونی و مدنی ، زندان و گلوله را به مردم ایران نشان داد ، در این حالت و به طور طبیعی هر مخالف شاخصی می توانست به یک شخصیت مقبول و یا محبوب تبدیل شود . موسوی هم یکی از این شخصیت ها ست که با اقبال مردم روبرو شد .

آيا درحال حاضر گفتگوئی با دولت در جريان است؟ آيا در حال حاضر کوششی برای بازگشودن (گره) و حل شرايط ايجاد شده در جريان است؟

همه مایلند که گره مشکلات فعلی را باز کنند . اما حاکمیت در پی خشونت است . در پی سرکوب و دستگیری مردم و معترضین هستند . گویا نمی خواهند مشکلات را حل کنند . فکر می کنم حاکمیت فعلی با عملکرد بدی که دارد در پی براندازی جمهوری اسلامی است . چیزی که نه مردم و نه کروبی و موسوی و من به دنبال آن هستیم . در نتیجه گفتگویی نمی تواند در جریان باشد .

تاکید می کنم که جنبش سبز یک جنبش اصلاح طلب، نرم و ضد خشونت است .22 ،25 و 30 خرداد سه تاریخ مهم و بزرگ درجنبش سبز مردم ایران است و حضور میلیونی مردم در خیابان دراین روزها بشارت پیروزی این جنبش در اینده بود.

چه پيامی مايليد از سوی جنبش سبز به جهانيان بدهيد؟ جامعه جهانی چه کاری ميتواند انجام دهد و چه عملی را نبايد انجام دهد؟

جنبش سبز و مطالبات مردم کاملا ملی، ایرانی و مردمی و درون جوش است . به هیچ جریان بیرون از ایران وابسته نیست و از آن خط و الهام نمی گیرد. اما افکار مترقی جهان به طور طبیعی باید مدافع حقوق ملت ها باشد و ازادی خواهی را در هر کجای جهان که باشد ، حمایت کند. افکارعمومی جهان باید مواظب باشد که دولت های شان در معامله با دولت ایران، آزادیخواهان ایران را حمایت کنند. اما در نهایت مردم ایران باید خودشان مشکلاتشان را حل کنند .

در ماه های گذشته خبرهای بسيار از اعدام ها، تجاوزها، خشونت ها و به زندان انداختن ها داشتيم. عکس العمل شما در اين موارد چگونه بوده؟ آيا چيزی هست که مايل باشيد در اين زمينه بگوئيد؟

من به طور کلی با خشونت از طرف هرکس که باشد مخالفم . در ایران و در درون جنبش سبز گروه های مرجع مثل هنرمندان ،روزنامه نگاران ،فعالان حقوق بشر ، دانشگاهیان ، ورزشکاران ،و گروه های دیگری مثل جنبش معلمان ، کارگران ، دانشجویان و زنان وجود دارد .

همچنین در اطراف فلات مرکزی ایران اقوام و نژادها با زبان ها و ادیان متفاوت زندگی می کنند که می تواند به یک فرصت خوب برای ایران تبدیل شود . حاکمیت می تواند این ها را به یک فرصت خوب تبدیل کند و همه را زیر بال و پر خود بگیرد و وحدت ملی را در عین تکثر و احترام به حقوق فرهنگ ها و اقلیت های نژادی و زبانی و قومی ، وحدت ملی را تقویت کند . آن وقت خواهیم دید که هیچ حرکت خشنی از سوی هیچ گروه و زبان و مردمی اتفاق نمی افتد . از این رو من با هر نوع خشونت از جمله اعدام مخالفم . اما مهمتر این که روش های دادرسی منجر به اعدام شده است . برای من مهم است و فکر می کنم این اعدام ها ، سیاسی و فاقد وجاهت قانونی لازم و حقوقی بوده است .

اگر امروز بخواهيد پيش بينی ای انجام دهيد، بنظر شما اين زورآزمائی به کجا می کشد و چگونه ختم می شود؟

ملت قطعا پیروز خواهدشد . و به ارمان های خود خواهدرسید . اما این موقعیت مرهون پایداری و مقاومت مردم و هم چنین موجب ارتقاء سطح اطلاعات ، آگاهی و دانایی آنها خواهد بود . نهایتا حق همیشه پیروز است . حتی اگر زمان زیادی لازم داشته باشد .

دنیای مدرن ، استبداد و دیکتاتوری را بر نمی تابد . دنیای رسانه و اینترنت و دیجیتال و دنیای نظریه ها و اندیشه ها ، خواهان دموکراسی و ازادی ملی و ازادی های فردی است و ایران هم بخشی از این جهان است.

آيا هرگز فکر کرده ايد که تسليم شويد و از خيرش بگذريد؟

هرگز! چرا باید چنین فکر شومی به سر من بزند . خودم را به خدا اسپرده ام و امیدوارم تا آخرین قطره خونم را به پای ازادی و دموکراسی بریزم . تا خدا چه بخواهد .

شما سمبل زنانی هستيد که به ميدان آمده اند. چه چيزی مايليد در مورد نقش زنان در جنبش سبز بگوئيد؟

حاکمیت فعلی ایران در این ایام یک سال خیر ، به سرکوب زنان پرداخته و اولین سرکوب را در حق خود من انجام داد . رییس دولت آنها در روند انتخابات در یک مناظره تلویزیونی با موسوی ، حمله را به من شروع کرد و شخصیت علمی و هنری من را زیر سوال برد . اگر چه موجب ریشخند ملت به خودشان شد . زنان به طور جدی از پیش تاران جنبش سبز بوده اند. حاکمیت هم به طور جدی زنان را سرکوب کرده است . اما این سرکوب نقشی در عقب نشینی زنان نداشته است .

زنان ایران همواره در پی تحقق دو دسته مطالبات هستند: 1- مطالبات ملی که تحقق آزادی ، دموکراسی ، قانون گرایی ، آزادی زندانیان سیاسی و آزادی های فردی و شخصی در سطح خصوصی و عمومی و 2- رفع تبعیض و اعاده حیثیت فرهنگی و حقوقی زنان ایران و تنظیم قوانین برابری خواه.

اما من بارها گفته ام تحقق دموکراسی بدون حضور زنان و بدون پاسخ مثبت به مطالبات زنان ممکن نیست .

آيا مسئله هسته ای بر شرائطی که بعد از انتخابات سال گذشته ايجاد گرديده تأثيری داشته و دارد؟

دولت از مسئله هسته ای سوء استفاده می کند . در ظاهر شعارهای تند می دهد و در باطن سازش می کند . و به دنبال معامله با دولت های دیگر است . آن هم به دلیل عدم مشروعیتی که دارد . بنابراین تلاش می کند اگر در ایران نا مشروع است ، در سطح بین المللی با دادن امتیازاتی به دولت های مختلف ، برای خود مشروعیت کسب کند . اما تا ملتی با دولت خود هماهنگ نباشد ، آن دولت در هیچ کجای جهان وجهه ای نخواهد داشت . امیدوارم تحقق ایران پیروز و دموکرات را هر چه زودتر به ملت ایران و جهانیان مژده دهیم.

18 EXECUTIONS IN TWO DAYS

Iran Human Rights, June 8: Five people were executed early today (Tuesday June 8) reported the Iranian government’s newspaper Iran. This is only one day after execution of 13 people in the Ghezel Hesar prison of tehran.

According to the report four of those executed today were convicted of kidnapping and rape while the fifth person was convicted of drug trafficking. Only one man was identified by name. He was Masoud (33 years old) convicted of drug trafficking. Two of the others were identified as "a 33 years old man" and "a 21 years old boy" both convicted of kidnapping and sexual abuse. The other two who were executed today were not identified by name or age, and were convicted of rape.

The report didn’t say where the executions took place, but it is believed that they took place in Tehran.

In the past three days at least 19 people have been executed in Iran. It is believed that the number of the executions will increase as we get closer to the first anniversary of the post-electoral uprisings on June 12.

Iran Human Rights has urged UN and all the countries with economic and diplomatic ties with Iran to do whatever they can to stop the executions in Iran.

حقوق بشر ایران، ۱۸ خرداد ۱۳۸۹: تنها یک روز پس از اعدام ۱۳ نفر در زندان قزل حصار کرج، پنج نفر دیگر صبح امروز سه شنبه ۱۷ خرداد در ایران به دار آویخته شدند.

به گزارش روزنامه دولتی ایران صبح امروزپنج نفر به اتهام آدم‌ربايي و آزار و اذيت و قاچاق مواد مخدر در زندان به دار آویخته شدند. این روزنامه اشارهای به مکاناعدامها نکرد اما گمان میرود که این افراد در یکی از زندانهای تهران اعدام شده باشند.

به گزارش این روزنامه نخستين اعدامي، مرد ۳۳ ساله‌اي بود که به اتهام آدم ربائی و اذیت و آزار یک پسر جوان به اعدام محکوم شده بود. نفر دوم جوان ۲۱ ساله به اتهام ربودن و اذیت و آزار یک دختر ۲۲ ساله با عقب افتادگی ذهنی، نفرهای سوم و چهارم به اتهام اذیت و آزار یک زن و نفر به اعدام محکوم شده بودند. این گزارش توضیح بیشتری در مورد هویت این چهار نفر نداد. نفر پنجم که امروز اعدام شد فردی بود به نام مسعود (۳۳) که به اتهام حمل، نگهداري و در معرض فروش قرار دادن ۸ كيلوگرم هروئين در دادگاه انقلاب محاكمه و به اعدام محكوم شده بود. هیچیک از این اتهامات توسط منابع مستقل تائید نشده اند.

با این پنج نفر تعداد اعدامها در سه روز گذشته به ۱۹ نفر رسید. انتظار میرود که با نزدیک شدن به سالگرد آغاز اعتراض های ضد حکومتی ۲۲ خرداد تعداد اعدامها هام افزایش یابد.

سازمان حقوق بشر ایران روز گذشته از سازمان ملل خواست تا یک گزارشگر ویژه فوری به ایران اعزام کنند. سازمان حقوق بشر ایران همچنین از کشورهائی که با ایران روابط اقتصادی و دیپلماتیک دارند خواست تا در قبال این اعدامها واکنش شدید نشان داده و از تمام توان خود برای جلوگیری از اعدام های بیشتر استفاده کنند.

TEN REFORMIST PARTIES RESPOND TO QUESTIONS POSED BY MINISTRY OF INTERIOR REGARDING 22 KHORDAD DEMONSTRATIONS

According to Jaras, in a letter to the Ministry of Interior, 10 reformist parties announced that there will be SILENT demonstrations along the entire routes previously assigned for the 22nd of Khordad march. They also stated that the demonstrators will carry Green banners and symbols.

In reference to our previous letter requesting a permit for demonstrations on the anniversary of the 10th presidential elections and in accordance with our recent conversation with Mr. Soleymani the head of the Office of Political Parties at the Ministry of Interior, we hereby respond to a number of questions posed of the undersigned parties as follows:

1) As previously announced, the date and routes for the demonstration will be as follows: The demonstration will take place on Saturday Khordad 22nd (June 12th) from 4pm - 8pm. The march will begin at Imam Hossein Square and will continue towards Azadi Square.

2) This will be a SILENT demonstration along the entire aforementioned routes.

3) There will be no speakers or resolutions/statements at the demonstrations

4) All security requirements for the demonstrations will be under the responsibility of the organizing parties and it goes without saying that the undersigned will be responsible for keeping peace and order.

5) This will be a completely peaceful demonstration, with no weapons of any kind and in compliance with national security standards.

6) The security personnel present will be responsible for preventing any type of disturbance by opportunistic individuals who seek to break the law and adversely effect the demonstrations. The undersigned organizers will cooperate fully with the security forces to ensure that such incidents are prevented.

7) The demonstrators will be carrying "GREEN" symbols and banners.

8) The demonstrators will be carrying banners requesting a return to the principles of the Constitution and the right to free and fair elections.

9) If any of the above mentioned provisions require modifications or removal, the representatives introduced in this letter have the authority to make the necessary changes in cooperation with the Ministry of Intelligence.

In closing we request that the permit be issued as soon as possible so that we may begin preparations for the demonstrations. We would like to reiterate that attempts by individuals to carry any type of weapon will violate the security of the demonstrations and as such will be dealt with by the security forces under the provisions of the law.

We hereby assign Mr Abolfazl Ghadyani and Mr. Ali Shokourirad as representatives responsible for the organization and security requirements for the aforementioned demonstration.

وزارت محترم کشور

سلام علیکم

پیرو نامه قبلی مبنی بر درخواست صدور مجوز راهپیمایی در نخستین سالگرد انتخابات دهمین دوره ریاست جمهوری و با عنایت به مذاکره تلفنی جناب آقای سلیمانی _ رئیس اداره احزاب و تشکل های سیاسی وزارت کشور با تعدادی از نمایندگان گروه های امضاکننده در خواست مزبور، بدینوسیله پاسخ موارد در خواستی اعلام می گردد:

1) تاریخ و مسیر برگزاری راهپیمایی : همانطور که قبلاً اعلام شده است از ساعت 16 الی 20 روز شنبه 22 خرداد و مسیر نیز از میدان امام حسین(ع) تا میدان آزادی می باشد.

2) راهپیمایی در تمام مسیر با سکوت همراه خواهد بود.

3) این راهپیمایی سخنران یا قطعنامه نخواهد داشت.

4) انتظامات راهپیمایی بر عهده احزاب برگزار کننده خواهد بود . بدیهی است حفظ امنیت راهپیمایی بر عهده دستگاه های ذیربط می باشد.

5) این راهپیمایی کاملاً مسالمت آمیز ، بدون حمل سلاح و با رعایت موازین امنیت ملی خواهد بود.

6) ممانعت از هر گونه اخلال در برنامه راهپیمایی از سوی افراد فرصت طلب و قانون شکن که قصدشان برهم زدن امنیت است بر عهده دستگاه های انتظامی و امنیتی است و برگزار کنندگان آماده همه گونه هماهنگی با دستگاه های مزبور می باشند.

7) راهپیمایان از رنگ سبز به عنوان نماد استفاده خواهند کرد.

8) راهپیمایان از پلاکاردهایی با مضمون در خواست اجرای بدون تنازل قانون اساسی و انتخابات آزاد استفاده خواهند کرد.

9) چنانچه هر یک از بندهای بالا نیاز به اصلاح یا حذف داشته باشد نمایندگان معرفی شده اختیار تصمیم گیری را با هماهنگی آن وزارت خواهند داشت.

در خاتمه تقاضا دارد نسبت به صدور مجوز در خواستی تسریع گردد تا فرصت تدار ک و هماهنگی شایسته وجود داشته باشد. یادآوری می شود حمل هرگونه سلاح توسط هرکس در این راهپیمایی ، به منزله اخلال در آن می باشد و ماموران انتظامی و امنیتی به حسب وظیفه می بایست با مرتکبین برخورد قانونی و بایسته بعمل آورند.

آقایان ابوالفضل قدیانی و علی شکوری راد به عنوان نماینده تشکل های برگزار کننده راهپیمایی برای هر گونه هماهنگی بعدی معرفی می گردند و به ترتیب مسئولیت اجرایی و انتظامی مراسم را بر عهده خواهند داشت .

The Green Students at Elm O Sanaat University - Last week the students at Elm O Sanaat University gathered on June 2nd, to commemorate the first year anniversary of the martyrdom of Kianoosh Asa. As of yesterday and today, the university security forces have begun taking away the student IDs and recording information regarding students who attended these ceremonies, upon their entrance onto campus. Agents from the University's Disciplinary Committee then contacted these students at home requesting that they appear at the Committee for Specific Affairs, in order to pick up their summon papers. In addition, there are unconfirmed reports indicating that 14 female students have been expelled from the women's dormitories.

Maryam Mohammadi: Green pluralistic reality and the unity of the movement's activists in the fight for political freedom has transformed secularism, the separation of religion and government, into a powerful ideological tool for creating national reconciliation and democratic gains in Iran. In this interview with Radio Farda (original link is inoperative), Reza Alijani insists on this important fact and the necessity and importance of understanding it.  

What is at stake for secularism within the green movement, what is its position and how does it deal with the diverse opinions about it within the movement?   

“The debate about secularism is very conflictual. This debate has been around for the past several years in Iran. Perhaps the word is confusing, but it seems that if we do not look at secularism as an ideology, or secularization which has a broader meaning, but look at it as a process or work in progress, then its relationship with the movement Green will become clearer.”  

So you believe that the green movement should not look at secularism as an ideology. But if we look at it as a process of social change, then would a single interpretation exist for secularism?

“In this process of secularization, if we look at its history and how it is determined by the reality outside of it, and follow the debates surrounding it, then we will see that it has been presented at two different levels:  

One is on a macro level and is calling for the absence of any reference to religion in all social areas: In fact, a universal secularism, or even sometimes a fundamentalist one. On a different level it demands the separation of institutions, especially and particularly religion and government institutions, and specifically the separation of clergymen and mosque from the government.  

If we reflect back at your question explicitly to the latter level of secularism which at its base demands the separation of religion and state and naturally opposes religious rule of law and political legitimacy of faith or religion, then we can turn to the issue of its relationship with the green movement.”  

Does the green movement, which we want to establish its relationship with secularism, have or should have a specific definition for all the diverse opinions?  

“There is much confusion about the green movement, but not as much about secularization. The green movement started as a movement to protest the election results but has since transformed into a movement in opposition to the dominant political system.

Of course, I see the Iranian dissidents, those critical of government or ruling factions, as wider than the green movement. For example, a number of people in the smaller cities or other areas, even in agreement with the criticisms and protests of the opposition have not opted to participate in protests for some reason, maybe for personal reasons.  

However, if the Green Movement symbolizes- now I do not know how to name it - the Iranian dissidents, then the discussion becomes clearer.”  

If the protest movement is broader than the green movement, can we consider the green movement part of the protest movement? Or that the protest movement currently in progress is the same as the green movement?

“Yes, absolutely. I interpreted on the more macro level, I did not use the word ‘movement’: But I talked of Iranian dissidents. Iranian dissidents are much broader than those who first protested against the election results and have come to the streets to oppose the current political system. I mean there are people that are with the green movement in their hearts, but did not come out.  

Iranian dissidents are broader than the green movement, but as you mentioned, the green movement is now the symbol of Iranian dissidents.  

With this understanding of the green movement, I want to compare its relationship with the discussion about secularism or the secularization process. When we talk about the green movement, we think of a social reality and identity that embodies symbolism and has civic leaders. We can also think of the green movement as its ideals or programs of action or their common demands.”

But the definition you first gave of the green movement, in effect, we want to consider the effect or its position within the green movement.  

“In reality, the green movement is a pluralistic movement. It is even more pluralistic if we consider what I call the Iranian dissidents. I do not think any observers or even the activists would deny the diverse plurality within the green movement.

I mean from religious forces, even traditional religious forces who were attracted by Mousavi’s message and have joined in, to the religious reformists, or so called religious new-thinkers, and the non-religious forces are present within the movement. There has been a wide field of operatives active within the movement.

When we go a step further, we see that the body of the green movement is pluralistic, the demands and ideal are also pluralistic. But when we arrive at the question of a common program, in my opinion, this question is put in parentheses.

I want to point to a concrete example that might be illuminating. Before the election, a movement called ‘demand-based approach’ started. The demand-based approach recognized this diversity and the presumption was that it was possible to cooperate on common grounds. In the language of social science methodology, the cooperation was not on the macro level, but within common grounds. On the macro level people can have different ideologies. For action these differences must be put in parentheses.”

So we can summarize: If the essence of the green movement is centered on specific demands and a common program, how can the differences in interpretation of secularism not play a role?

“Yes, based on my personal experience and not as a matter of research or statistics, however, the green movement has had no religious demands. They have not cloaked their wishes in the form of religious discourse and one that wants a religious government to be established. This is a fact.  

This fact does not mean that a part of the green movement activists, or even an important part of them are not religious or do not want religious values. As I said, the body of the green movement is pluralistic, but the dominant discourse in the green movement does not want a religious government, the enforcement of Shari’a law or a return to a government in accordance to Shari’a law.

But demands of the green movement can be embedded within each discourse. It means that the demands could be embedded in a discourse that does accept the practice of current constitution and one that does not adhere to the current constitution and does not see any potential within it. Both discourses can move in parallel paths in the context of a demand-based movement.  

This duality can also be operative with respect to an ideal outlook. If the ideal outlook is for maximum secularism, part of the green movement thinks along those lines and some don’t. But in the context of a demand-based movement they would also take parallel paths.  

On the other hand – the way that I understand - the essence of the green movement, has been a secularist one. This essence is demand-based and wants to transform lifestyles. This transformation of lifestyles may well be contained in different discourses, even a religious discourse, but will not accept to be the dominant discourse itself within the green movement.

How can we understand this better when as a religious intellectual, one who believes that the essence of the green movement is secularist, while maintaining that the talk of secularism, as an ideology, does not and should not have a place within the green movement?

With this interpretation of the claim that this movement is a demand-based movement, essentially the integration of religious and governmental institutions is beyond the scope of the discussion.”  

But Mr. Alijani, if the discussion about secularism and secularists exists inside and outside of the green movement, can we arrive at the conclusion, given your definition, that in the present stage there is no confrontation between secularists and non-secularists?  

“No. Even if someone claims that the green movement is a reformist movement within the current government, and its activists are religious and their demands are religious as well, I will theoretically argue by correspondence of their argument to reality that they admit that those who came to the streets did not have merely one idea or opinion.  

But I would also argue about the case of a project, for example, in a project I might accept the religious interpretation of Ayatollah Montazeri’s defense of human rights, or I might not accept the religious interpretation and provide a religious new-thinker’s interpretation or even someone who can provide a non-religious interpretation.  

The problem is not with the departure point; when we talk about a project, we return to a program of action and what are really our demands. We demand free elections, free speech, and free political parties. Some say that these freedoms exist within the current constitution, and there are some who say that they do not.

I say that whether these freedoms exist within a constitutional framework or within religion is a theoretical discussion outside of the green movement.”

13 prisoners were executed in Ghezelhesar prison in Karaj this morning

The news of 26 prisoners having been moved to quarantine in preparation for execution came out on Sunday. See yesterday’s report from RAHANA.

Today they executed 13, all charged with “drug trafficking”. Reports are the executions took place without the presence of their lawyers (required by law). A number of the people executed today were first time offenders.

Iran Human Rights, June 6: According to reports from Iran, 26 people have been transferred to the quarantine section of Ghesel hesar prison, west of Tehran, and are being prepared for execution. They can be executed within the next 48 hours.

The human rights lawyer Moammad Mostfaei wrote in a letter that this news has been confirmed by some of his clients who are staying in the Ghezel Hesar prison. According to Mr. Mostafaei’s letter these peopel are allegedly convicted of drug related offences. Mr. Mostafaei wrote also names of some of those who are transferred to the quarantine section: Mohammad Jafari, Mohammad Azarfam, Bagher Amini, Soltan Abadi, Mohammad Moradi and Nader Azarnoosh.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of Iran Human Rights, urged UN to send an urgent team of observators immediately to Iran. He said: The Iranian authorities are trying to spread fear in order to prevent new protests on the anniversary of the June 12. presidential elections". He added: " We expect more executions in the coming days and weeks. We ask all the countries with economic and dipolomatic ties with Iran to use all their channels in order to prevent these executions. The world community must not be silent witnesses to the crimes taking place in Iran. The world must react now!"

According to reports by TahavoleSabz, in a statement, a group of students at various universities in the city of Mashhad, published the suggested routes in Mashhad for the demonstrations commemorating the rigged elections on June 12th, 2010, Khordad 22nd 1389.

The full content of the statement is as follows:

In the name of God,

Salutations to our dear fellow students,

Last year, around this same time, we all had uplifted spirits; full of passion and hope and ready to dedicate ourselves to our Iran. We came together, with a variety of beliefs and opinions, because we had one thing in common, to work together with the goal to at minimum improve our situation and strive for a little more freedom. This is was what brought all those families who had never voted before to the voting booths last year; but alas what did we witness the day after the election, but injustice, the trampling of our rights and utter disregard for our vote and our choice?

Today I say to you my classmates, my peers at the university, my fellow citizens and compatriots, in this past year, if you have not witnessed what I witnessed, if you did not hear what I heard, if you did not feel the agony of losing Neda, Sohrab, Taraneh and all our other martyred compatriots, then we have nothing left to say you and I and I leave you to the silence of your conscience.

If on the other hand, you place even an ounce of value for the blood that was shed so that you, me and our children can someday enjoy the benefits of freedom; if you feel the pain of tears in your throat as I do; if you ponder just for a moment how unjust it is for our fellow students to be deprived of their studies, then the time has come for us to stand together again this June 12th, 22 Khordad.

Do not allow fear to overcome you. Have you not heard and seen that we are countless? Reject this fear as this will be the day that the foundations of oppression will finally crumble and a window will be opened towards a free tomorrow.

My dear friends I will be waiting for you.... don't abandon me....

دانشجوی عزیز سلام

سال پیش در همین روزها حال و هوای تازه ای بین ما بود ، سرشار از شور برای تعالی بخشیدن ایرانمان
با تمام عقیده های گوناگون بسیاری از ما بر این عقیده شدیم که برای حداقل بهتر شدن اوضاعمان ، برای کمی آزادی بیشتر همه با هم پای صندوق رای برویم و اینطور شد که تمامی اعضای یک خانواده که تاکنون هیچ دوره ای رای نداده بودند پای صندوق رفتند ، اما آه از بعد آن روز ، آه از ظلم در حق مان ، ظلم بدین آشکاری بر انتخابمان.

امروز میخواهم این سخن با تو بگویم : هم کلاسی ، هم دانشگاهی ، همشهری ، ای هموطن اگر در این یکسالی که گذشت آنچه من دیدم تو ندیدی ،آنچه من شنیدم تو نشنیدی ، آن غمی که از پرپر شدن ندای عزیزم ، سهراب ، ترانهو بقیه هموطنان شهیدمان بر من رفت بر تو نرفت ، مرا با تو کاری نیست جز آنکه به وجدانت بسپارمت ؛

TahavoleSabz - Dr. Sara Tavasoli was sentenced to 6 years in prison and 74 lashings for attending the demonstrations on Ashura and expressing condolences towards martyr Mousavi's family.

According to the ruling of the 26th branch of the Revolutionary Court under the supervision of Judge Pirbabayi, Sara Tavasoli was sentenced to 6 years in jail and 74 lashings because of her brief appearance at the Ashura demonstrations and for visiting the house of martyr Mousavi in order to extend her condolences.

Sara Tavasoli was arrested on the 14th of Dey, after the events that proceeded the elections, spending 50 days in Evin's ward 209. Dr. Tavasoli is a professor and the daughter of Mohammad Tavasoli Head of the Political Office & Central Council of the Freedom Movement in Iran.

Her husband, Mohsen Farid Taheri was also arrested after the events of Ashura and is currently held in Evin's ward 350.

According to the sentence delivered by the 26th branch of the Revolutionary Court, Dr. Tavakoli was charged with colluding to commit crimes against the national security of the country, receiving a total sentence of six years in jail and 74 lashings.

تحول سبز: خانم دکتر سارا توسلی به اتهام حضور در حوادث عاشورا و تسلیت به خانواده شهید موسوی به شش سال زندان و ۷۴ ضربه شلاق محکوم شد.

بنابر رای شعبه ۲۶ دادگاه انقلاب اسلامی به ریاست قاضی عباس پیربابایی ، خانم دکتر سارا توسلی به اتهام حضور کوتاه مدت در حوادث عاشورا و حضور در منزل شهید موسوی و تسلیت به خانواده این شهید به شش سال زندان و ۷۴ ضربه شلاق محکوم شد.

به گزارش میزان، ساراتوسلی در پی حوادث انتخابات در تاریخ ۱۳ دیماه بازداشت شد و مدت ۵۰ روز در بند ۲۰۹ زندانی بود.دکتر سارا توسلی استاد دانشگاه و عضو هیات علمی و فرزند مهندس محمد توسلی رئیس دفتر سیاسی و عضو شورای مرکزی نهضت آزادی ایران است.

همسر وی مهندس فرید طاهری نیز درپی حوادث عاشورا بازداشت شده و همچنان در بند ۳۵۰ زندان در بازداشت بسر می برد.

بنابر حکم بدوی ابلاغ شده توسط شعبه ۲۶ دادگاه انقلاب وی به اتهام اجتماع و تبانی به قصذ ارتکاب جرایم علیه امنیت کشور و اخلال در نظم عمومی مجموعاً به شش سال زندان و ۷۴ ضربه شلاق محکوم شده است.

On the eve of the birthday commemoration of Hazrat Fatemeh Zahra (daughter of Prophet Mohammad) and the anniversary of Women's Week , Dr. Zahra Rahnavard issued a statement in which she revered the esteemed character of Fatemeh Sedighe and stated that the Prophet Mohammad's daughter is a role model for all Muslim women.

I would like to congratulate the noble people of Iran on the anniversary of the birthday of Hazrat Fatemeh the daughter of Prophet Mohammad and Women's Day.

I hope that this unique woman, with all her dimensions, such as her spiritual and holy teachings, her political and social role, her role as a gentle mother and wife has an everlasting place in the culmination of human aspirations.

In addition to its unmatched unity, the Green movement is also filled with duplications and freshness. This variety creates an opportunity for us to appreciate all beautiful human behavior, and to respect all justice seeking models across the globe.

Within the framework of our Islamic beliefs, we follow the example of Fatemeh Zahra and bow our heads in honor of her transcendent character.

We will not forget, not even for a moment the extreme suffering she went through to promote and advance Islam. Even though her young body is now connected with the darkness of the earth, her cause and spirit still remains for the believers and those who seek freedom.

The Green movement as a reform seeking movement realizes the importance of new religious thinking, narrated through the approach of Hazrat Zahra to modern day individuals. Hazarat Zahra is not only a role model for women, but also a complete and consummate symbol of Islam and this orthodox religion has been crystallized both in her personality and in her face. It is regretful that in the name of Hazrat Zahra and under such conditions, the current ruling government is preparing for Women's Day and Women's week, particularly when they have digressed kilometers from her character, her religious behavior and ideals and are acting in a way that is contrary to her views. Justice and seeking freedom were only one of the dimensions of her personality and her example and holiness continue to provide light and hope for the believers.

Can we accept that the current ruling government believes in Sedigheh Kobra Zahra? Can they be believers when they lie to this extent? Can they be believers when they repress women and men? Can they be believers when they block and stifle the airways of freedom?

It is not surprising that in this day and week, the ruling government is incapable of hearing the cries of the children separated from their mothers - those innocent children who wait endlessly for the grace and caress of mothers that are either in prison or have been killed. Children who have no one to turn to but to the grace of God.

The ruling government chuckles at the faces of mothers waiting behind prison doors, hopeful to see their sons and daughters. Mothers who leave no stone unturned, running from one place to the next just to be abused, humiliated and given false promises. They chuckle at women whose husbands have either been buried for a long time or are being threatened and tortured in prisons. Mothers who look forward to their children marrying and completing their university education. Mothers who rather than celebrating with their loved ones are standing at their grave site engulfed with sadness and pain and participating in a festival of tears and sorrow.

As the day and week of Women is arriving in the holy name of Hazrat Zahra, I announce to the ruling government to take advantage of this immense opportunity and for once prove the credibility of their words and actions. These occasions should not always be excuses for the robbers of freedom and murderers. For once take advantage of an occasion and use it as an excuse to free political prisoners.

Release all prisoners in the memory of the passing of Hazrat Zahra. Start with female political prisoners. Be sure that you will not lose face and no one will claim that you have retreated. Later in subsequent steps provide freedom of press, individual freedoms, non interference in people's private lives, free and fair elections, etc. in order to establish freedom and democracy.

We women ask the scholars and Grand Ayatollahs in all their religious glory, to force the ruling government to free prisoners and respond to the demands of the people.

دکتر زهرا رهنورد در آستانه سالروز ولادت حضرت فاطمه زهرا(س) و هفته زن در بیانیه ای ضمن تکریم شخصیت والای فاطمه صدیقه(س)ایشان را نه فقط الگویی برای زن مسلمان که نماد تام و کمال اسلام دانست. به گزارش کلمه متن بیانیه زهرا رهنورد به شرح زیر است:

سالروز تولد حضرت فاطمه زهرا(س) دخت گرامی پیامبر اسلام و روز زن را به شما ملت عزیز تبریک عرض می کنم.

امیدوارم آن بانوی اطهر، آن بانوی بی همتا با تمام ابعاد وجودیش از کلمات روحانی و معنوی و علمی تا نقش های سیاسی و اجتماعی، لطافت مادری و همسری، پیوسته در نقطه اوج آرزوهای انسانی قرار گیرد.

جنبش سبز ضمن وحدت کم نظیرش در عین حال مشحون از تکثرهاست و این طراوت و تنوع فرصت می دهد که به تمام رفتارهای زیبای بشری ارج نهیم و به تمام الگوهای عدالت طلب و آزادی خواه در سطح جهان احترام گذاریم.

در عین حال در قلمرو باور و ایمان اسلامی به فاطمه زهرا تاسی می کنیم و در برابر شخصیت متعالی او سر تعظیم فرود می آوریم.

لحظه ای فراموش نمی کنیم که آن بانو چه رنج های عظیمی برای ارتقا و پیشبرد اسلام به جان خریدند و بدن عنصریشان در اوج جوانی به خاک تیره پیوست اما راهشان و روحشان همچنان برای مومنان و آزادیخواهان مستدام خواهد ماند.

اصلاحات و در بطن آن جنبش سبز، مطمئن است که لازم است با نگاه نو اندیشی دینی و با رویکردی معاصر، شخصیت حضرت زهرا (س) روایت شده و به انسان های مدرن شناسانده شود. اما، حضرت زهرا(س)، نه تنها الگویی برای زنان بلکه، نماد تام و کمال اسلام است، که این دین حنیف، به تمامی در چهره و شخصیت ایشان متبلور شده است. جای تأسف و تأثر است که حاکمیت فعلی، در شرایطی با تأسی به نام زهرا(س) به تدارک روز زن و هفته زن می پردازد که فرسنگ ها از آن شخصیت و آن رفتار دینی فاصله گرفته و جهت عکس آن بانویی بوده است که آزادگی و عدالت طلبی فقط یکی از ابعاد وجودی او بوده و وجه مثالی و الهیش همیشه قلب های مومنان را نورانی و امیدوار کرده است.

آیا می توان پذیرفت که حاکمیت به صدیقه کبری، زهرا(س) اعتقاد داشته باشد، و تا این حد دروغ بگوید، زنان و مردان را سرکوب کند و راه تنفس آزادی را با خفه کردن حلقوم ها، مسدود کند؟

شگفتا در همین هفته و روز حاکمیت ضجه کودکانی را که در فراق مادران زندانیشان ناله می کنند نمی شنود، آن بچه های مظلوم که در انتظار لطف و نوازش مادرانشان که یا در زندانند یا به خاک و خون خفته اند لحظه شماری می کنند و فریاد رسی جز خدا ندارند.

حاکمیت با ریشخند، به چهره مادرانی که پشت درهای زندان ها به امید دیدن پسران یادخترانشان هاجروار این سو و آن سو می دوند و تحقیر می شوند و وعده سرخرمن می بینند نگاه می کند.

زنانی که مرد خانواده شان مدت هاست که در گور خفته یا در زندان تهدید و شکنجه شده اند، مادرانی که آرزوی دامادی و عروسی و تحصیل جوانانشان را به جای جشن بر سر گورشان سوگواره غم و آه می گیرند و فستیوال اشک و افسوس برگزار می کنند.

اینک روز زن و هفته زن به نام نامی حضرت زهرا فرا رسیده است.

به حاکمیت فعلی اعلام می کنم این فرصت بزرگ را غنیمت شمارید و یکبار هم که شده صدق گفتار و عملتان را ثابت کنید. مناسبت ها همیشه نباید بهانه آزادی دزدان و آدم کشان باشد یکبار هم مناسبت ها را بهانه آزادی زندانیان سیاسی قرار دهید.

همه زندانیان را به پاس بزرگداشت زهرا(س) آزاد کنید و این اقدام را با زنان زندانی آغاز کنید، مطمئن باشید کوچک نمی شوید و کسی نمی گوید جا زده اید.

سپس در مراحل بعدی آزادی مطبوعات، آزادی های فردی، عدم دخالت در زندگی خصوصی مردم،انتخابات آزاد و… تا آزادی و مردمسالاری میسر شود.

ما زنان از علما و مراجع عظام می خواهیم با دم مسیحائیشان حاکمیت را وادار به آزادی زندانیان و پاسخ به مطالبات مردم نمایند و چنین باد.

Statement by the Green in Tabriz on the occasion of the upcoming anniversary of the 22nd of Khordad

Saturday 9th Khordad, 1389 (May 30th, 2010)

TahavoleSabz- A number of political and student activists in the city of Tabriz issued a statement on the occasion of the anniversary of the rigged, coup elections. As per TahavoleSabz, the complete content of this statement is as follows:

To Sardar Pasdar, Mr. Beigi, the Governor of Eastern Azarbaijan [Governor of the illegitimate government following the 9th],

On the eve of the 22nd of Khordad (June 12th) and the anniversary of the epic presence of the people at the voting booths, that lead to the appointment of an illegitimate government, referred to by the people as "the coup government", we would like to inform you and the noble people of Tabriz of the following:

1) We, a number of students and political activists in the city of Tabriz would like to request the presence of all the people ofTabriz, this 22nd of Khordad (June 12th) at 6:00pm at Shariati square, moving towards Saat Square. We will gather once again to honor and celebrate the martyrs of the rigged elections and with strong hopes for the release of all political prisoners, we will once again come to the scene to demonstrate our support for the leaders of the Green movement, Mr. Mousavi, Mr. Karroubi and Mr. Khatami.

2) In accordance to Article 27 of the Constitution that states freedom of assembly and the right to hold demonstrations in accordance to a free Islam, you the Governor and the person ultimately responsible for security of the province are also responsible for ensuring the security of any individuals attending the demonstrations in Tabriz. We therefore expect that with the proper understanding of the current political climate and with adherence to the Constitution and the guidelines defined by the late founder of the Islamic Republic, that you refrain from introducing yourself to society as the main deterrent against the people's movement.

3) The reason why this letter is being published on the internet is directly related to the current military atmosphere in the province. If there had not been such fear of illegal arrests, irresponsible and inhumane behavior, show trials and heavy sentences from the past and had we found you to be an individual on top of political issues with tolerance for the rule of law, we would have presented this statement to you in person and there would be no need for its publication on the internet.

4) The leaders of the Green movement have announced that they have formally applied for a permit for the demonstrations of the 22nd of Khordad (June 12th). We are hopefully that the ruling government will not repeat the mistakes of the past, dealing with this request both legally and humanely, as otherwise this will be become yet another piece of evidence recorded in history, of the despotism and tyranny of the ruling government.

5) We hereby unequivocally announce that during the demonstrations of the 22nd of Khordad we will refrain from using radical slogans that are against the law and will only demonstrate using reform seeking slogans that are within the framework of the constitution. As such, we ask that the security forces in Tabriz avoid creating chaos by stopping the demonstrations of the honorable people of Tabriz. We also ask that those who aim to wreak havoc such as plain clothes agents and motor cycle riding agents carrying batons and chains with the goal to beat people attending the demonstrations be dealt with decisively and within the framework of the law.

We are reformers who seek free political and civic activities within the framework of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran - a right that not only makes logical sense but has also been emphasized under the law.

اطلاعیه سبز های تبریز بمناسبت فرارسیدن ۲۲ خرداد

تحول سبز: جمعی از فعالین سیاسی و دانشجویی شهر تبریز به مناسبت فرا رسیدن سالگرد انتخابات مهندسی شده و کودتای انتخاباتی ، اطلاعیه ای را صادر نمودند.

به گزارش تحول سبز، متن کامل این اطلاعیه به شرح زیر میباشد:

سردار پاسدار جناب آقای بیگی، استاندار آذربایجان شرقی در دولت بعد از نهم

در آستانه فر رسیدن ۲۲ خرداد سالگرد حضور حماسی مردم در پای صندوقهای رای در انتخابات گذشته که منجر به روی کارآمدن دولتی نامشروع و به تعبیر مردم «دولت کودتا» گردید، ضروری است جهت اطلاع رسانی به مردم شریف تبریز و شخص جنابعالی نکاتی اعلام و یادآوری شود:

۱-ما بعنوان گروهی از فعالین سیاسی و دانشجویی تبریز از عموم مردم سبز شهرمان دعوت می نماییم در روز ۲۲ خرداد، ساعت ۱۸ در مسیر چهارراه شریعتی به سمت میدان ساعت حضور بهم رسانند و با گرامیداشت یاد شهدای پس از انتخابات و آرزوی آزادی برای زندانیان سیاسی، بار دیگر بر حمایت خود از رهبران جنبش سبز آقایان موسوی، کروبی و خاتمی صحه بگذارند.

۲-براساس اصل ۲۷ قانون اساسی که برگزاری تجمعات و راهپیمایی ها را منوط به عدم مخالفت با اسلام آزاد قلمداد می کند، شخص جنابعالی بعنوان استاندار و بالاترین مقام امنیتی استان موظف به تامین امنیت شرکت کنندگان در راهپیمایی مذکور می باشید. انتظار می رود با درکی صحیح از فضای سیاسی جامعه و پای بندی به قانون اساسی و رهنمودهای بنیانگذار فقید جمهوری اسلامی هرگز خود را بعنوان سدی در برابر حرکتهای مردمی به جامعه معرفی ننمایید.

۳-علت اینکه این نامه بصورت اینترنتی و در فضای مجازی انتشار می یابد، برمی گردد به رفتارها و واکنش های نیروهای امنیتی در استان که اگر چنین نبود و اگر بیم بازداشتهای غیرقانونی ، رفتارهای غیرمسئولانه و غیر انسانی و در نهایت دادگاه های نمایشی و احکام صادره از قبلش نبود و در این مدت شما را فردی صاحب نظر در مسایل سیاسی و دارای سعه صدر و قانونمدار می یافتیم حضورا نامه خود تقدیمتان می نمودیم و نیازی به انتشار اینترنتی آن وجود نداشت.

۴-با توجه به اینکه رهبران جنبش سبز رسما علام کرده اند بدنبال دریافت مجوز برای راهپیمایی در ۲۲ خرداد هستند، امیدواریم دولت مستقر اشتباهات گذشته را تکرار نکرده و با این درخواست بصورت قانونی و انسانی موافقت نماید که در غیر اینصورت سند دیگری بر استبداد و خودکامگی این دولتمردان در تاریخ ایران به ثبت خواهد رسید.

۵-ما به صراحت اعلام می کنیم که در راهپیمایی روز ۲۲ خرداد حرکات و شعارهای ساختارشکنانه و ضد قانون را تائید نکرده و تنها شعارهای اصلاح طلبانه و در چهارچوب قانون اساسی اکتفا خواهیم نمود و در این راستا انتظار داریم دستگاه های امنیتی-انتظامی آنگونه که در شان مردم شریف تبریز است از دخالت و ایجاد هرج و مرج در راهپیمایی پرهیز نموده و با عوامل آشوب طلبی که در قامت لباس شخصی ها و موتورسوارهای چماق و زنجیر بدست قصد برهم زدن راهپیمایی و تجمع مردم را داشته باشند، برخورد قاطع و قانونی بعمل آورند.

ما اصلاح طلبانی هستیم که در چهارچوب قانون اساسی جمهوری اسلامی ایران بدنبال فعالیت آزاد سیاسی و مدنی هستیم. ما جنبش سبزی هستیم که نه براندازیم و نه اغتشاشگر! بلکه سیاسیونی هستیم که گفتن و اعتراض را حق خود می دانیم. حقی که قانون به آن تاکید کرده و عقل حکمش می کند.

Mehdi Karroubi: The pulse of the green movement is in the hands of the people

Mehdi Karroubi's recent interview with Jaras is a MUST READ for everyone who wants to understand Iran's Green movement. Karroubi answers a number of very direct questions and also adresses some misconceptions about the movement, including criticism by the Iranian diaspora that not enough is being done.

Mir Hossein Mousavi , Mehdi Karroubi and Mosen Rezaie , the three candidates of June 2009 Iran presidential election were among many people who faced with irregularities in vote counting procedures and expulsion of their representative from polling stations objected to the official results announced by Ministry of Interior. Among them Mohen Rezayi withdrew his protest when Supreme Leader approved the election process and the results. However since last year Mr Karroubi and Mousavi have maintained their positions and have not recognized Ahmadinejad as the legitimate president of the country.

In the course of last year, positions and views of Mr Karroubi and Mousavi , the leading figures of Iran’s protest movement were only published through statements, speeches, meetings and interviews with reformist websites inside Iran and number of foreign journalists. For unknown reasons so far neither Mr Mousavi nor Mr karboui have had an interview with an Iranian media outside Iran.

A request for interview [with Jaras] has been submitted to all four candidates. So far Mr Karoubi who is well known for his audacity in face of questions asked by reporters has agreed to [our] request.

In this interview Mehdi Karroubi , former head of parliament and the chairman of Etemaad Melli party which has been shut down by security apparatus , responds to questions by Jaras regarding green movement in the year that has passed , its future prospects, the hope and worry that surrounds the movement and the criticisms raised regarding the movement’s method of leadership.

Jaras- Mr. Karroubi a year has passed since Khordaad [June] 2009, a month full of events and accidents. Khordaad has a historical significance in [Iranian calendar]. The epic 2nd of Khordaad [1] , courageous resistance on 3rd of Khordaad [2] , the movement of 15th of Khordaad [3] and finally the last year’s fraudulent elections which sparked a mass movement that became known as the green movement. Is there a logical relationship between these events?

Karroubi- [The events] of 15th Khordaad are a major turning point in Islamic Revolution and the founder of the revolution [Ayatollah Khomeini] has called it the starting point of the revolution. [For these reasons] this day will never be forgotten. Khordaad [June] is a month of incidents. But what is more important for us is that these incidents should be investigated. For example even the 9th presidential elections in 2005 should be examined. In the year of that election the reformers controlled the government and for reasons that I do not want to discuss now we lost all [political power] . The outcome was that this person [Ahmadinejad] came to power and his supporting factions took control of the country that has only resulted in difficult consequences and suffering for people and [our] country.

Jaras- You mention that since the 9th presidential election in 2005 where Ahmadinejad and Hashemi-Rafsanjani participated in a run-off , because of certain issues that occurred reformist lost all [political] power. But when I met with you for an interview last year before the election and asked you based on the assumption that the revolution eats its own children are you among those who have been eaten or among those who have eaten others, you replied with a smile:”I am neither one of those eaten nor will I [passively] watch it happen to one of the children of this revolution “. Do you still have the same opinion? Or back then despite the suspicious election in 2005 your were optimistic that the radical [hardliner] forces will retreat?

Karroubi- After the death of Imam Khomeini we expected that certain individuals [will attempt] to reduce our influence and isolate us. But we did not predict the current situation which is not only difficult for us but also for many other people in the country. Although we were and are prepared [for this situation] we are witnessing that the majority of people that belonged to the first generation of revolution are facing the same hardships as a result of having this man as the president and in charge of the country. We would have had no worries if this person was elected by people and carried legal and popular legitimacy.

Jaras-What were the mistakes you believe you committed in the past year and what have been the strengths and weaknesses of the movement?

Karroubi- I am quite satisfied with what I have done and said in the past year. If I have been radical in my conduct as they [hardliners] claim , it has only been in reaction to their own behaviors and conduct. I have never diverted from my revolutionary ideals and therefore I will not suffer from extremism or lack of action In this past year I only acted upon my duty to stand for the people’s rights – rights that had been trampled upon . I said in one of the presidential debates last year that I am ready for Jihad and I will pay any price. The night I decided to run for election I knew I am embarking on a long and winding road. But based on necessity and in order to keep political forces from scattering I had to participate in the election.

Jaras- How about others? You, Mousavi and Khatami have given individual statements and speeches. Can we look forward to joint statements from two or three people in the 2nd year of the movement?

Karroubi- I strongly believe that each individual should and will focus on their own activities. Individual efforts must be continued. At the same time, in areas where there is a need for joint statements, this should also be done. Of course I have made suggestions for joint statements for specific issues in the past, which unfortunately did not come to fruition and as such I had to act on my own.

Jaras – Under these circumstances, don’t you see the need for the formation of a core leadership team for the Green movement? What is you strategy for leadership of the movement?

Karroubi – First of all, this movement belongs to the people. The people are its leaders and as such it will move in the direction desired by the people. The pulse of the movement is in the hands of the people. In fact, if there were to be any leader other than the people, those opposing the movement would make sure that leadership is eliminated. When Mr. Mousavi and I formed a committee consisting of four individuals, Mr. Beheshti and Mr. Moghadam (nominated by Mr. Mousavi) and Mr. Aloviri and Mr. Amini (nominated by myself) in order to support those who had been attacked after the elections, three of these four individuals were arrested immediately and sent to jail. As such everything we had planned in this area came to a stand still. Under such circumstances, the only leader who can continue the path of this movement are the masses, in other words the nation of Iran.

Jaras – They have confiscated all newspapers critical of the government. Political parties have been closed. As the head of a political party in Iran, how do you see the future of this movement? How do you think the Green movement can show itself in a society that is under such heavy military and security presence?

Karroubi- The first part of this question is related to the previous question. These gentlemen had no tolerance for an office associated with a political party. They had no tolerance for newspapers associated with a political party. They did not tolerate anyone visiting me in my office. They did not even tolerate the existence of a few newspapers and magazine that in their own words was “not one of them”. The ruling government has become so afraid that they even get written commitments from people who visit me, stating that they will refrain from visiting me in the future. They don’t tolerate our presence in public gatherings and official meetings and go as far as hiring people to create disturbances and to physically attack us.

In response to the second part of your question I must reiterate that the fact that the movement has issued statements requesting that people attend every official event and commemoration is proof that we have not stopped fighting and that we continue with our path. The fact that the movement desires change means living and being present. On the other hand, we must not only stand behind what we say, but we must also act upon it and be willing to pay the necessary price to obtain our goals. The fact that we are witnessing extensive efforts on the part of the ruling government to prepare for a potential back lash on the anniversary of the Imman’s passing and that they did not allow certain anniversaries to take place illustrates that the Green movement is alive and well. It is for this reason that they banned me from attending a ceremony commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Zahra. A large security force with ample knives, batons, bricks, etc. had been mobilized in order to make my presence at the ceremony impossible. All these reactions and this type of behavior on their part is evidence that we are present and that the movement is persistent and will continue to prevail.

Jaras – How long is it necessary to publish statements rather than act in order to continue with your fight?

Karroubi – Our movement is a civic movement. Our movement is not violent and cannot be armed. In which of my statements have I said something and not acted upon it? Have I not attempted when ever possible to be present amongst the people? My children have been banned from leaving the country. They have attacked my house two times. They closed down my private office, my political party and the newspaper associated with my political party. They confiscated Irandokht the newsletter belonging to my wife’s institution. They intended to kill me in Qazvin. They attacked one of my children and severely wounded him in a detention center. They attacked both myself and my security personnel on numerous occasions during various demonstrations. Do you not view these all as actions? They have arrested everyone close to me. This ruling government needs to know that Mehdi karroubi is willing to pay any price for this movement.

Jaras- One of the demands that has been published in many of your statements is holding free and fair elections. Do you think there is any hope that elections will take place one day to form a government or the parliament that includes representation from various political parties? Fundamentally, do you think that “political parties” have a future in Iran? When I say political party I mean a party that has been elected by the people and has the power to govern.

Karroubi – We must focus on achieving this goal. Currently there are two obstacles facing our progress in this area. The first is the ruling government that apposes such a concept and the second the political parties that are not accustomed to organized activities and efforts. I have said repeatedly that they are either fighting political parties or evading them. In Iran it is very difficult to belong to and work within the framework of a party. It will require time for us to learn how to work within a party and how to deal with political parties.

Jaras – You have often been regarded as the person coining the term the “Regime’s Boat” in many Green publications. Others believe that you are the one who is leaving the “Regime’s Ship”. Where do you believe the regime’s boat or ship is headed?

Karroubi- This boat has not changed. It’s capacity has not changed. It is incapable of accommodating 75 million people. This boat is not capable of withstanding the slightest wind or storm. My hope is to transform this boat into a ship that has the capacity to carry the entire nation of Iran.
It is the same boat that can’t fit all seventy five million citizens of this country. This boat can not stand the weakest storms. We hope that this boat will soon be replaced by a ship that accommodate all Iranians.

Jaras- You have been jailed in the previous regime. Have the prison system and the judiciary honestly improved or regressed?

Karroubi- The problem with the previous regime was corruption. After the revolution, we have had fresh and new players on the scene. But because this system has turned into a small and exclusive boat with occupants who want the administration to solely serve their needs and play to their advantage; occupants who use force to actively keep people out. A tiny incapable minority have occupied all the leadership positions in the country and try to put pressure on people. The situation has worsened. In the old days, government supporters did not gather in front of revolutionary’s residences in order to exert pressure. The treatment Mr. Nourizad and other political prisoners have received are even worse. The current administration lacks public support and is using force to compensate for it unpopularity. For instance, the serial killing of political activists around a decade ago lead to brutal murder of the Forouhars. If we didn’t put an end to the killings, we would have lost more activists. So we must always oppose such extreme and violent actions. In Shah’s time, there was no republic. In the Islamic Republic, all are equal under the law, even the Supreme Leader. But now, some inexpert actions are taking place.

Jaras-You are stating that under the law, even the Supreme Leader is equal to everyone else. Then what exactly are the duties of the Council of Experts? Other than eulogy and flattery, does the council do much else to serve the country or fulfill its constitutional duties? Why was the Council silent when some members of the parliament who opposed the Supreme Leader were threatened and attacked by the plain-cloth militia?

Karroubi- During Imam Khomeini’s time, the Council of Experts had a well-defined mission and methodology. The first council included country’s top figures and the most senior clerks. That council appointed Ayatollah Khamenei as Imam Khomeini’s successor. A year after that, a short-sighted act changed the body that verified the eligibility of candidates for the Council, from the faculty members in Islamic scholarly institutes to the Gaurdian council whose members were selected by the Supreme Leader. A Guardian Council whose members were vetted by Mr. Janati et al. should surprise no one. The strongest principles of the constitution are written in section 108 which has turned into the weakest section of the constitution by such people. It is not the question of membership or times, but rather the true role of the institution. I have written a letter to Mr. Hashemi about the role of the Guardian Council a little while ago.

Jaras- In a sentence, tell us how you were feeling in night of these critical demonstrations:

Karroubi-
25th of Khordaad: I was happy to see the wave of people and the extraordinary showing of people. But at night, when I heard that some had lost their lives in the demonstration, I became very sad and couldn’t believe that such things would happen in the Islamic Republic
30th of Khordaad: I was extremely upset by the killings.
Ghords Day: I was happy to see the great showing of people in the demonstrations.
13th of Aban: I went to the demonstrations that day but we were stopped and then attached by pepper spray. One of my body guards was injured from the things they threw out way. When I returned home and learned that a number of people were killed and arrested, I couldn’t believe it.
Ashoora: I had been worried since the morning. I was in a religious ceremony and away from the streets but in the ceremony I heard that they had pushed down a person from a bridge and that a police car had driven over some people. I was extremely sad. Every news that came my way added to my sorrow. I should add that all this was happening on a religious holiday, making it very painful for me. We were all supposed to mourn Imam Houssain’s death and honour this holy day and yet they were killing people in the streets.
Day of the Anniversary of the Islamic Revolutions: That day I prepared myself for anything. There was serious ambush as I joined the crowds. They sprayed pepper gas on me. For hours, I couldn’t even open my eyes. I had problems breathing and with my vision. When I got back home, I heard that there has been a clash and some have been arrested. I was also told that my son, Ali, has been among the detainees. What happened was very sad. When Ali was freed, and I got to know what [tortures] has happened to him in prison, I was struck with sorrow. I couldn’t believe that they react with such violence to the children of this land.

Jaras- Mr. Karroubi! You visit families of many reputed prisoners, and sympathize with their families. For instance, you visited family of Mr. Jafar Panahi, Mohammad Nourizad, and other prisoners who are on hunger strike. What programs do you have in mind for many other prisoners like, Majid Tavakoli, or many other unknown students who are as well known?

Karroubi- Unfortunately the status of less well-known prisoners is very worrying. As I’ve said before, I had created a committee exactly to server this purpose; to follow up on the status of prisoners and inquire about their conditions. But even this was not tolerated, and the members of the committee were detained and imprisoned. I have talked to the family of Majid Tavakoli, the student activist. It is not right to imprison a student who voices his criticism. I have also talked through phone to families of prisoners from other towns. People do not deserve these behaviors [of imprisonment.] I am certain that the suffering that the families and specially the mothers of unknown prisoners endure makes them eligible for kindness [of others.]

Jaras- In your statements you have alluded to images and clips to prove the violence apparent in the reactions toward normal people; reactions that were result of people’s sense of responsibility and citizenship. These images, and thousand other pictures and films never made their way through the national media. These were works of normal citizens through cell phones that were distributed via weblogs and sites like Tweeter and Facebook. Have you seen those films? Are you aware of the protests movements in the virtual space against constrain that were created for you and for your bodyguard team. Youth have voluntarily campaigned and have written that they are ready to guard Mehdi Karoubi and Mir Hossein Mousavi themselves. I generally want to know your opinion on the movement that was created by citizen reporters to convey information from the violence on the streets to the symbolic sympathy sessions around the world.

Karroubi- Yes. I get very sad and embarrassed when such violent actions happen in the Islamic Republic, because even during the oppressive regime of the Shah such behavior was not common. I wrote countless times in letters and I issued warnings. Earlier we had also created films from those who have been tortured. Back then, I asked them not to talk to satisfy us, but to think of God in their minds, and know that there is a court room with God where nothing is hidden, where everyone is responsible for what they do. When I used to see their dark and beaten bodies, my heart would fill with sorrow that why should there be reactions like this to people who have merely protested to results of an election. We didn’t want to tweak documentations to prove our points. We were just recording what fact. Each film that was recorded had an original version and copy. We gave a version to authorities in charge of following up on the issue, and kept the copy, so that if they were later pressured to confess otherwise we would have recordings of what they’ve said. Our concerns were valid too; many of these people were put under pressure to deny what they’ve said. Some escaped the country as the result of the pressures, and the rest had to live lives without any security and so stopped following up.
And [what I have to say] about the troubles that they created for my bodyguards is that it is natural. When I heard that some of the youth has suggested that they would all protect me, I was joyous, but I never wanted to put others into trouble. Wherever I wanted to go, I would go with my children. I am however very thankful to the children of this land and the youth of this nation for their struggle to keep our country’s dignity. I pray that God brings them health and prosperity in life.

Jaras- My next question is about the protest movement created by the Iranians abroad. Do the leaders of the green movement have any plans to organize the forces inside and outside the country? Why not benefit from the great asset that is all the Iranians [whether inside or outside?]

Karroubi- The movement was created inside the country. Iranians abroad too followed this movement and supported it. The struggles that Iranians abroad made are great and we are very thankful for it. However they must look at the situation inside Iran. Here, I request all the Iranians abroad to pay attention to some of the details in creating their slogans and messages. Unfortunately, often times that the radicalization of movements outside the country only causes pressure to the forces inside the country. Unfortunately, the government too takes advantage of the situations to put more pressure to internal forces. Iranians abroad must act as the medium to convey the message of the Iranian people to the people of the world. I hope that the slogans inside and outside the country go towards a direction that would make the two messages coherent with each other. On the other side, we must be wary of agents that penetrate amongst us. These agents mix themselves among us and by radicalizing the slogans provide excuses for the forces and the government to start the clamp down. This movement is still nurturing, and hopefully the movement of people outside of Iran and the movement inside would eventually start to become coherent with another. We must notice however that this needs a lot of time.

Jaras- Some of the freedom seekers of the Green movement have been asking the following question since the Islamic Revolution of 1357[1979]: “Why from the beginning of the revolution did we witness a certain degree of personal self indulgence, and oppression recreated in the speeches given by the leaders of the revolution?” You exposed the crimes that occurred after the 10th elections and did not sacrifice the truth for the sake of expediency. Prior to that you were a voice against violations such as approbation supervision by the Guardian Council. All this oppression however, does not compare with what occurred in Iran in pursuing the goals of the revolution to turn Iran into a paradise of ideals. You will be asked about the first decade of the revolution. You will be asked about Imam Khomeini’s leadership and its surrounding issues. If you respond to these questions freely and fairly, some within the movement will be disappointed in you ( those who are still unable to break from idolizing an individual or engage in self criticism). If you refrain from speaking freely and seek the best course of action by depicting Imam Khomeini and the first decade of the revolution as impeccable, then you will disappoint another group within the Green movement (this group consists of two subgroups. The first group still bares a grudge against the past and sees nothing but darkness when viewing that period. They are perhaps even unable to accept that there is both good and bad associated with that era. The second group tries very hard to be fair, taking steps towards open mindedness and breaking from past prejudices.) To act as an intermediary under such challenging and difficult conditions is only possible with brave leaders. With this long introduction I would like to ask what is your assessment of the first decade of the revolution and the Imam Khomeni’s leadership? To what extent do you think that the root cause of today’s problems in Iran stem from the political beliefs of that era?

Karroubi- We need to examine the problems and see which ones belong to the past and which ones have appeared recently. The first decade after the revolution was characterized by resistance and sacrifice. I believe that the serious predicaments we face today appeared after the death of Imam Khomeini. Many examples can be recounted that demonstrate these deviations. For example while the meetings of the expediency Council were held in the older parliament building before, a year after the death of Imam Khomeini they were held in the offices of supreme leader. Or in one of the elections the guardian council disqualified large number of political and religious figures based on [its own interpretation of] approbation supervision [article in the constitution]. The revolution that was founded by Imam Khomeini has deviated from its course by others. After the death of Imam Khomeini the fraud started. In last year’s election, it is more accurate to call it appointment rather than election , votes were rationed among candidates and each candidate had a pre-determined number of votes . The issues surrounding this election should be investigated further.

Jaras- Many people criticize your way of thinking. What do you think is the common ground between you and a generation that seems to be widely different from yours in belief, taste and even appearance, yet has gathered side by side you in the green movement and even feels related to you as a clergyman?

Karroubi- Desiring freedom, obtaining citizen rights, [seeking] dignity and greatness of Iran

Jaras- Thank you for your time .

Karroubi: Iranians outside Iran must be cognizant of the conditions within Iran

گاهی باید شرایط داخل را هم باید در نظر بگیرن

Since 22 Bahman (12 February) there has been a considerable change in attitude amongst many #iranelection tweeps towards the green leadership inside Iran, in particular Mir Hossein Mousavi.

Slogans like "Revolution! Not reform!" and messages claiming that Mousavi wants to save the regime, have increased, partly fuelled by IRI trolls frequenting the hashtag.

Some expat Iranians, and non-Iranian supporters, call for a revolution, and discredit Mousavi as a leader because he has not called for massive demonstrations. As if the green movement was all about street protests. The dangerous consequences of the political vacuum that would be the result of a revolution, does not seem to have crossed their minds. It is in this context we should understand Karroubis remarks in an interview with Jaras:

Jaras- There are complaints by Iranians outside of Iran who ask "Don't the leaders of the Green movement have any program for organizing the forces inside and outside Iran? Why not use the vast investment made by all Iranians to in this cause?"

Karroubi - The movement began inside Iran. Iranians abroad consequently also supported this movement. The efforts by Iranians outside Iran is greatly appreciated, but sometimes we must also take into consideration the conditions that exist inside Iran. Here I would like to request from Iranian diaspora to pay attention to some of their demands, expectations and slogans. Unfortunately, some of the excessive remarks that take place outside of Iran lead to internal pressures and the regime takes advantage of these remarks to increase internal pressure on opposition forces within Iran. Iranians abroad are the voice of the Iranian people outside of Iran. I am hopeful that as we move forward, the messages and slogans inside and outside Iran will be more aligned. We must also be careful and pay attention to the various influences. Sometimes people with influence who use harsh rhetoric, only provide fuel to the ruling government to suppress the movement. This movement will continue and gradually the efforts both within and outside Iran will be better coordinated. It is important that we realize that our victory will require time and will not happen over night.

سوال بعدی من در مورد جنبش اعتراضی شکل گرفته شده توسط ایرانیان خارج از کشور است، رهبران جنبش

سبز برای ساماندهی نیروهای داخل و خارج کشور هیچ برنامه ای ندارند؟ چرا سرمایه عظیم همه ایرانیان را در این مبارزه وارد نمی کنید؟

در داخل کشور جنبشی به راه افتاد. ایرانیان خارج از کشور هم به تبع آن از این جنبش حمایت کردند. تلاش ها و اقدامات ایرانیان خارج از کشور قابل تقدیر است اما گاهی باید شرایط داخل را هم باید در نظر بگیرند. من در اینجا از ایرانیان خارج از کشور می خواهم که در بیان درخواست ها، توقعات و شعارهای خود به برخی موارد توجه کنند. متاسفانه گاهی برخی تندروی هایی که در خارج از کشور صورت می گیرد فشارش بر داخلی ها وارد می شود و متاسفانه حکومت از این ابزار در جهت فشار بر نیروهای داخل استفاده می کند. ایرانیان خارج از کشور هم اکنون به عنوان رساننده صدای مردم داخل کشور به ملت ها و کشورهای دیگر عمل می کنند و امیدوارم شعارهای داخل و خارج از کشور نیز به سمتی پیش رود که با هم همسانی داشته باشد. از طرفی باید مراقب نفوذی ها هم باشیم. گاها افرادی نفوذی با دادن شعارهای بسیار تند، موجب دادن دست آویزی به جریان حاکم در سرکوب جنبش مردمی می شوند. این حرکت همچنان ادامه دارد و مردم داخل و خارج به تدریج با هم هماهنگ خواهند شد و البته باید بدانیم که این پیروزی نیاز به زمان دارد.

هموطن آگاه و آماده باش که امتحانی عظیم در پیش روست . چشم شهدا و نیاکانمان به ما دوخته شده است ، نظاره میکنند که ما در این امتحان بزرگ در کدام لشگر هستیم. در لشکر کاوه آهنگر یا لشکر ضحاک ماردوش در لشکر سبز حسین یا لشکر خون خواه و ستمگر بنی عباس که جامه ولایت و خلافت بر تن کرده و خود را وارث علی میداند اما روز عاشورا خون مردمان میریزد و به آنان تهمت حرمت شکنی می زند.بی گناهان را اعدام و زورگویان را پاداش می دهد.

22 خرداد نزدیک است و ما به خرداد پر حادثه عادت داریم. کودتای خونینی که رخ داد و رای میلیونها نفر به سخره گرفته شد جان صدها تن از هموطنانمان را گرفت.به هزاران تن آسیب رساند.هموطنانمان را در زندان شکنجه کردند، به دختر و پسر تجاوز کردند. کودتایی که آبروی اسلام را در خطر انداخت و هویت حکومت را افشا کرد. در مساجد که روزگاری خانه و پناهگاه مظلومان بود فرزندان این مرز و بوم شکنجه شدند،تهدید به تجاوز شدند و رسانه ی به اصطلاح ملی اینها را دروغ خواند ، چشم بر روی حقیقت و وجدان بست و تن به خودفروشی داد.

عقل را به حاشیه راندند و از احساسات پاک عده ای سو استفده کردند، باتوم و اسلحه بدستشان دادند تا مارا سرکوب کنند، ما را محارب خواندند. بلی ما محاربیم، محارب با شیطان!

خانواده باکری را تهدید کردند پسر بهشتی را زندانی کردند همسر شهید همت را کتک زدند.به چه جرمی؟ به جرم سبز بودن!به جرم در پیش گرفتن راه قهرمانان این مرز بوم قهرمانانی که با دست خالی در برابر دنیا ایستادند و نگذاشتند وجبی از این خاک از دست برود. اما اینان خزر را فروختند.چنان بی لیاقت بودند که کشورهای عرب همسایه به خود اجازه دادند که از نام جعلی خلیج ع**ر**ب استفاده کنند.ابوموسی و تنب کوچک و بزرگ را معامله کردند.نفتی که قرار بود بر سر سفره من و تو بیاید را غارت کردند، چوب حراج به کشور زدند.کشاورزی را نابود کردند کارگران را بی کار کردند دانشجویان واساتیدشان را زندانی کردند و هرکس که اعتراضی کرد را به زندان انداخته و یا اخراج و اعدام کردند.

با اینهمه در چشمانمان نگاه میکنند و از آزادی کامل و رفاه اقتصادی میگویند. از برابری قومیت ها میگویند. اما ترک را به جرم ترک بودن و کرد را به جرم کرد بودن اعدام میکنند.گرانی را گردن بیگانه میاندازند و یا انکار میکنند. روزنامه ها را میبندند و از آزادی بیان نزدیک به مطلق سخن میگویند.نه تنها حق اعتراض را طبق اصل 27 قانون اساسی از ما می گیرند بلکه به خاطر اعتراض و تجمع مسالمت آمیز جوانانمان را مجازات هم می کنند. هموطن بیدارشو!

سپاه پاسدارانی که روزگاری جهان آرا ها در آن بودند را به سپاه دزدان و غارت گران تبدیل کردند.بسیج مستضعفان را به بسیج اوباش و مزدوران و نیروی سرکوبگر مخالفان تبدیل کردند.

اما با ندای سبز ما به لرزه می افتند.نیروهای سرکوبگرشان را در خیابان ها روانه می کنند دانشگاه ها را تعطیل میکنند،چرا که خوب میدانند " حق می آید و باطل رفتنی است."

هموطن دستهای سبز من و توست که میتواند این شوره زار اهریمن را از بین ببرد.

سکوت تا کی؟..

در ۲۲ خرداد سال صبر و استقامت ملی به دریای بی کران سبز ملت بپیوند.

آمده ام تا راهی و همراهی باشم برای رفتن به سوی ایرانی مستقل، آباد، آزاد، پیشرفته و سربلند. (میرحسین موسوی)

1- دقیقا راس ساعت 5:30 بعد از ظهر در چهار راه ملاصدرا سمت بانک سپه شروع به پیاده روی فشرده به سمت میدان نمازی می کنیم (دقت داشته باشید بسیار آرام حرکت کنید تا تجمع تشکیل شود)

2- از شیرازی های عزیزی که قصد دارند با اتومبیل به ما بپیوندند خواهشمندیم دقیقا راس ساعت 5:30 با زدن بوق ممتد مردم را دعوت به تجمع و اعتراض خود را نشان دهند.

3- احتمالا میدان نمازی مملو از نیروهای انتظامی و بسیج خواهد شد..هیچ بهانه ای به دست آنها ندهید..تا زمانی که جمعیت کم هست از شعار دادن بپرهیزید..در بین راه دیگران را دعوت به همراهی با ما بکنید.در صورتی که جمعیت به تشخیص خود شما مناسب برای اعتراض و تجمع بود از پیاده رو به خیابان بروید و با مسدود کردن خیابان شروع به شعار دادن و یا پیاده روی در خیابان بکنید.

4- دقت داشته باشید از کوچکترین تجمع و اعتراض و یا برخورد نیروهای انتظامی و بسیج فیلم و عکس تهیه کنید و آنها را به اینترنت ارسال کنید.

5- در صورتی که در روند اجرای برنامه اختلالی ایجاد شد مسیر جایگزین دقیقا راس ساعت 6:30 میدان دانشجو خواهد بود.

Tahavol-e-Sabz: On the first day of Khordad (May 22nd), protests by Azad University Tehran Central students turned violent during altercations with Basiji and security forces.

A few hundred students of the Faculty of Engineering at Azad University Central gathered to protest the results of the coup elections, the continued arrests and the wide spread expulsion of students from the university.

As per Bamdad News, beginning early this morning there was a strong military atmosphere at Azad University Tehran Central and both intelligent and paramilitary forces had an extensive presence on campus. In addition, the entrance to the University and surrounding streets were heavily controlled by anti riot police who were preventing many students from entering the university. At the same time, in an effort to safeguard the premises, more than 50 known student activists were denied entry to the university grounds.

As the day progressed and classes came to an end, the crowd began to assemble, and chants including "Ya Hossein, Mir Hossein", "Death to Dictator", "We Support our brave students"and "All imprisoned students must be released" filled the air.

Students were attacked by Basiji and intelligence forces as they ended their protest with the famous song "Yareh Dabestanieh Man" (My Childhood School Mate) and a speech by one of their classmates.

As per reports received from the scene, it was at this time that security forces and intelligence officers from the Ministry of Intelligence inside the university premises began arresting a number of the students present.

It is worth mentioning that the afternoon classes at the Engineering Faculty at Tehran Central were canceled as a result of the conflicts and because so many students had been banned from entering the premises.

The exact number of students hurt and arrested is unclear as mobile phone access was cut off from one hour prior to the protests and at the time this report was published.

Currently, special security forces on motorcycles are circulating outside the Tehran Faculty of Engineering and it has been reported that in some cases they have attacked and beaten students.

This is not the first time that protests at the Engineering Faculty at Tehran University Azad have ended in violence, even though the head of the university Dr. Gozashti had promised to prevent such events from occurring again.

Students strongly believe that entry by plain clothes agents and interrogators from the Ministry of Intelligence would not be possible without cooperation by the head of the university. It is also their opinion that the heavy sentences, unprecedented student expulsions and the recent appointment of Dr. Eftekhari as the new head of the university is just another way to increase pressure on students and create a security filled atmosphere.

It is also worth mentioning that at the beginning of the school year the students at Azad University had already protested against the coup government. The third protest by the students at this university took place last year on Mehr 21st, 1388. It led to brutal attacks and the use of tear gas by Basiji and security forces in which many students were admitted to the hospital.

During the current academic year alone, more than 50 suspension and expulsion sentences have been issued to students at Azad University Tehran Central.

تحول سبز: در اولین روز از خرداد ماه سال جاری دانشجویان دانشگاه آزاد واحد تهران مرکز دست به تجمعی اعتراضی زدندکه از سوی عوامل امنیتی و نیروهای بسیجی به خشونت کشیده شد.

در پی فراخوان دانشجویان مبنی بر برگزاری تجمع در اعتراض به کودتای انتخاباتی صورت گرفته و نیز تداوم بازداشت دانشجویان، چند صد نفر از دانشجویان دانشکده فنی دانشگاه آزاد واحد تهران مرکز دست به تجمع زدند.

اعتراض به احکام گسترده ممنوعیت از تحصیل برای دانشجویان این واحد از محورهای دیگر این تجمع ذکر شده بود.

به گزارش بامداد خبر، از ابتدای صبح امروز فضای دانشگاه آزاد تهران‌-مرکز به شدت امنیتی بود و نیروهای اطلاعاتی و شبه‌نظامی در داخل دانشگاه حضور چشمگیر داشتند. در بیرون از دانشگاه نیز گارد ضد شورش خیابان‌های اطراف دانشکده را به محاصره در آورده بودند و نیرو های امنیتی مانع ورود بسیاری از دانشجویان می شدند.

هم‌زمان حراست دانشگاه نیز از صبح امروز بیش از پنجاه نفر از دانشجویان شناخته‌شده را ممنوع‌الورود کرده بود.

با پایان یافتن کلاس های نوبت صبح و نزدیک شدن به زمان تجمع، رفته رفته هسته‌ی اولیه آن شکل گرفته و تجمع با سر دادن شعار «یا حسین، میرحسین» آغاز می شود و با افزایش تعداد دانشجویان، فریاد «مرگ بر دیکتاتور»، «دانشجوی با غیرت حمایت»، «دانشجوی زندانی آزاد باید گردد» و … فضای دانشگاه را پر می کند.

پس از آنکه دانشجویان با خواندن سرود یار دبستانی و سخنرانی یکی از دانشجویان به تجمع خود پایان دادند، مورد حمله‌ی نیروهای بسیجی و اطلاعاتی قرار گرفتند.

بر اساس این گزارش، نیروهای امنیتی و بسیجی به همراه بازجویان وزارت اطلاعات که شخصا در داخل دانشکده فنی حضور داشتند دست به بازداشت تعدادی از دانشجویان زده‌اند.

تا لحظه تنظیم خبر چهار تن از دانشجویان در حالی‌که به شدت خونریزی داشتند و توسط نیروهای بسیجی مصدوم و مضروب شده بودند در داخل دفتر انتظامات بازداشت هستند و از انتقال آنها به بیمارستان جلوگیری می شود.

این درحالی است که کلاس‌های بعدازظهر دانشکده فنی تهران مرکز در اثر شدت درگیری‌ها و ممانعت از ورود دانشجویان به دانشگاه تعطیل شده است.

از حدود یک ساعت پیش از آغار تجمع تا لحظه تنظیم خبر موبایل ها قطع می باشد و به همین دلیل از تعداد بازداشتی ها و زخمی‌های بیشتر آمار دقیقی در دسترس نیست.

هم‌اکنون نیروهای یگان ویژه موتور سوار بیرون از دانشکده فنی تهران مرکز در حال تردد هستند و در بعضی از موارد دانشجویان را مورد ضرب و شتم قرار داده‌اند.

این چندمین باری است که تجمعات اعتراضی دانشجویان دانشکده فنی تهران-مرکز به خشونت کشیده می‌شود و این در حالی است که دکتر گذشتی رئیس دانشگاه آزاد واحد تهران مرکز پیش از این قول جلوگیری از تکرار چنین حوادثی را داده بود.

دانشجویان معتقدند ورود آزادانه لباس‌شخصی ها و بازجویان وزارت اطلاعات و ضرب و شتم دانشجویان بدون هماهنگی با رییس دانشگاه صورت نمی گیرد و صدور احکام سنگین و بی‌سابقه ممنوعیت از تحصیل و تبعید مکرر دانشجویان و گماردن دکتر افتخاری بر مسند ریاست دانشکده فنی را در راستای امنیتی‌تر کردن فضا می دانند.

گفتنی است دانشجویان دانشگاه آزاد پیش از این و در ابتدای سال تحصیلی هفت تجمع در اعتراض به دولت کودتا برگزار کرده بودند که تجمع سوم دانشجویان تهران مرکز در ۲۱ مهر ماه سال ۸۸ با ضرب و شتم دانشجویان و شلیک گاز اشک آور از سوی نیرو های امنیتی و بسیجی مواجه شد که منجر به بستری شدن تعدادی از دانشجویان در بیمارستان گردید.

در سال تحصیلی جاری نیز بیش از پنجاه ترم حکم تعلیق و تبعید از تحصیل برای دانشجویان واحد تهران مرکز صادر شده است.

Zahra Rahnavard, wife of opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi, has expressed her outrage over the horrific executions of the five political prisoners last Sunday. The full translated text of her written piece published by Jaras website is as follows:

The provocative and violent executions carried out by the regime in recent days, especially the execution of five young individuals on Sunday 9 May under the pretext that they belonged to antirevolutionary groups raises different questions for the mind of any freedom seeking and critical person. Questions such as:

• Why execution? Why are the worst types of punishment applied against individuals and the nation?

• Were the judicial proceedings carried out in a just way? Do confessions obtained under torture have any legal worth?

• Were these actions, rulings and executions carried out by the judiciary independently or did they take place under pressure exerted by security forces?

• Were these hasty executions a way of taking vengeance on the people just before the first anniversary of the 12th of June?

• The Green Movement, with all its diversity and pluralism seeks the strengthening of central rule and national unity among all of Iran’s ethnic groups while respecting minority rights. Yet why is it that the current rulers move towards provoking an ancient ethnic group by oppression and execution of Kurdish minority and youth? And the key question is: are these actions in favour of national unity or in the favour of separatism with all its implications?

• Is execution and violence against God’s most benign subjects a cause for pride for the regime or a sign of weakness and desperation? This, despite our prophet description of women as a flowers.

• Despite all the regime’s claims of being an Islamic one, have these violent actions, interrogations, long-term imprisonments and the executions made Islam more appealing for women or have they indeed caused the cynicism of women and the youth towards Islam in a way that even fundamental practices such as praying and fasting are being questioned? This slaughter of women means that the regime has finally given in to the calls for it to eliminate discrimination; however this time it has done so by applying the same level of oppression to everyone, both men and women through imprisonment, torture, interrogations, subpoenas and execution. And at the same time, the regime prevents measures banning discriminatory and dominating laws in its relevant bodies and courts. Finally, as Zahra Rahnavard, a small member of this nation, I would like to send a message to all the mourning mothers and women whose sons and husbands have either been executed or murdered on the streets at the hands of mercenaries: Oh brave and courageous women! I am with you in this time of sadness and grief, and know that the bloods will culminate in victory and the reward for the heavy price of losing the youth will be freedom and democracy, but alas, for the regime oppresses the nation; a nation that has no sanctuary but God himself.

Death Row Inmate Hadi Aravand Killed by Prison Guards in Sari

RAHANA – Sari Prison’s warden has claimed that Aravand’s death was the result of suicide, but the coroner ruled that the young man died after being suffocated to death.

Torture and bruise mark were visible on Aravand’s body, including a broken arm, wounds on his back and a 1cm deep slit around his neck ruling out any possibility of suicide. Cuts around Aravand’s wrists and ankles prove that he suffered an agonizing death, according to a family member who talked to a RAHANA reporter.

The relative added that Hadi Aravand was moved out of his cell at 5pm on April 30, and an hour later his wounded body was delivered to the Sari hospital.

The coroner has confirmed that, at the time of his death, Arvand’s arms were tied behind his back and his legs were tied together, ruling out the possibility that the death occurred as a result of suicide. The coroner’s report says that the young man died after he was suffocated with a plastic bag while his arms and his legs were tied.

According to the inmates, this is the 4th suspicious death in 7 months since Abedi was appointed as the prison’s new warden.

The 23-year-old Aravand was awaiting his execution which was scheduled to be carried out 3 months later. He was arrested on March 19 2008 after killing someone during a street fight. Aravand was buried in Soural near Sari on Sunday May 9.

قتل یک زندانی توسط ماموران زندان ساری

رهانا: رییس زندان مدعی خودکشی وی با ملحفه است، اما پزشکی قانونی خفگی را علت مرگ می‌داند.

آثار و کبودی شکنجه در همه قسمت‌های بدن هادی اراوند دیده می‌شد؛ به طوری‌که یکی از دست‌ها شکسته بود و پشتش هم زخمی بود. دور گردن هم به عمق یک سانتیمتر بریده بود؛ که امکان خودکشی را از بین می‌برد. یکی از آشنایان وی با اعلام این مطالب به خبرنگار رهانا اضافه می‌کند که البته بریدگی مچ دست و پا بیانگر این است که چقدر در حال مرگ به وی فشار وارد شده است

وی در ادامه گفت: هادی روز جمعه ۱۰ اردیبهشت، حول و حوش ساعت ۵ از بندش به بیرون منتقل شد و ساعتی بعد جسد مجروح و زخمی‌اش در بیمارستان امام ساری بود.

طبق تائید پزشکی قانونی در هنگام مرگ پاها به صورت ضربدری و دست ها ازپشت بسته بودند و امکان هیچ گونه خودکشی وجود نداشت و در این حالت بست پلاستیکی را به گردنش انداختند و آن را کشیدند که باعث خفگی و در نهایت مرگ این زندانی شده است.

بنا به گفته زندانی‌ها از زمان ورود رئیس جدید زندان «عابدی» در ۷ ماه گذشته زندان ساری شاهد ۴ مورد مرگ مشکوک بوده است که نشان دهنده‌ی وضعیت بد زندان ساری است

هادی اراوند، ۲۳ ساله، از زندانی‌های محکوم به اعدام بوده است که سه ماه به اجرای حکم‌اش باقی مانده بود. وی در ۲۹ اسفند ۸۶ در نزاع خیابانی مرتکب قتل شده بود و روز یکشنبه هفته قبل در آرامگاه شهر سورک در چند کیلومتری ساری به خاک سپرده شد.

According to the reports from Iran five political prisoners were executed in Tehran’s Evin prison early this morning, Sunday 9 May.

According to the official Iranian news agency IRNA, four men and one women, all convicted of Moharebeh (waging war against God), were hanged at Evin prison today.

Four of those executed were the kurdish political prisoners Farzad Kamangar, Ali Heydarian, Farhad Vakili and Shirin Alamhooli, all convicted of membership in PJAK (the Iranian branch of PKK), while the fifth person was Mehdi Eslamian convicted of involvement in a bomb explosion in 2008 in Shiraz.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of Iran Human Rights condemned today’s executions and said: "None of the five executed today had fair trials and they had been subjected to torture while in prison". He continued: "We ask the UN, EU and the international community to condemn these execution". He added: "Several other political prisoners are at imminent danger of execution and the world community should let that happen."

پنج زندانی سیاسی در زندان اوین اعدام شدند

حقوق بشر ایران، ۱۹ اردیبهشت ۱۳۸۹: بنا به گزارشهای رسیده از ایران زندانیان سیاسی فرزاد کمانگر، علی حیدریان، فرهاد وکیلی، شیرین علم‌هولی و مهدی اسلامیان بامداد امروز در زندان اوین تهران به دار آویخته شدند. خبرگزاری رسمی حکومت ایران ایرنا به نقل ازدادسراي عمومي و انقلاب تهران نوشت که فرزاد کمانگر به اتهام محاربه و عضویت در گروه پ. ک. ک. ، علی حیدریان، فرهاد وکیلی و شیرین علم‌هولی به اتهام محاربه و عضویت در گروه پژاک و مهدی اسلامیان به اتهام شرکت در بمبگذاری حسینیه شیراز به اعدام محکوم شده بودند.

محمود امیری مقدم سخنگوی سازمان حقوق بشر ایران در این رابطه گفت: ما این جنایات را شدیدا محکوم میکنیم. همگی این افراد در دادگاههای نمایشی محاکمه شده بودند و در زندان تحت شکنجه قرار داشتند. وی افزود: ما از سازمان ملل، اتحادیه اروپا و جامعه بین المللی میخواهیم که اعدام های امروز را محکوم کنند. هم اکنون احتمال اعدام زندانیان سیاسی دیگری از جمله زینب جلالیان، رمضان احمد، فرهاد چالش، رستم ارکیا، فصیح یاسمنی، رشید آخ کندی و حسین خزری، در زندانهای حکومت ایران وجود دارد و جامعه بین المللی باید از این اعدامها جلوگیری کند.

Six men were hanged in the Ghazal Hesar prison of Karaj, west of Tehran early this morning Saturday 8, reported the state run Iranian news agency Fars.

According to the report the men were identified as

Arsalan Asadi son of Amanollah
Mohammad Ali Fakhri son of Mohammad Hossein
Abbas Garavand son of Yousefbeik
Rahman Biabani son of Vali
Parviz Taghizadeh son of Soleiman
Saeid Michaeili son of Rashid

They were all convicted of drug trafficking. Age of none of those executed today was mentioned in the report.

Iranian authorities have started a new wave of executions since the beginning of the Iranian new year.

Ghezel Hesar prison is rarely used for executions.

صبح امروز شنبه شش نفر در زندان قزل حصار اعدام شدند

خبر گزاری حکومتی فارس به نقل از روابط عمومي دادسراي تهران، در این رابطه نوشت:" محكومين ارسلان اسدي فرزند امان‌الله، محمد‌علي فخري فرزند محمد‌حسين، عباس گراوند فرزند يوسف‌بيك، رحمان بياباني فرزند ولي، پرويز تقي‌زاده فرزند سليمان و سعيد ميكائيلي فرزند رشيد نام داشتند. ارسلان اسدي و محمدعلي فخري به اتهام حمل ۱۵۶ كيلوگرم مرفين و ۱۱۰ كيلوگرم ترياك، عباس گراوند به جرم نگهداري ۳۸۶ گرم هروئين، رحمان بياباني به جرم حمل ۲۷۶ گرم كراك، اختفاي ۲۶۴ گرم هروئين و تلاش براي انتقال ۹۸ گرم هروئين به داخل زندان، پرويز نقي‌زاده به جرم نگهداري ۱۵۰ گرم كراك در قالب ۸۳۰ بسته، ۴۰ گرم ترياك، ۸۰ بسته قرص روانگردان و سعيد ميكائيلي به جرم نگهداري و فروش ۴۴۲۲ گرم كراك اعدام شدند".

سن هیچیک از افراد اعدام شده در این گزارش ذکر نشده است.

با سلام به همه کارگران و معلمان کشور

من روز معلم و روزکارگر را به شما عزیزان تبریک می گویم .در آستانه این دو روز بسیار مهم هستیم. فعالیت ها و جهت گیری های قشر کارگر و معلم جزو مهمترین مولفه های اقتدار ملی ماست. آنها تولید کنندگان ثروت ،علم ، فضیلت و اخلاق در کشور هستند و بدون فعالیت آنها نیل به ارزش های بنیادی در یک نظام امکان پذیر نیست و بعد از به وجود آمدن دولت -ملت ها نقش این دو قشر اهمیت فراوانی در همه کشورها پیدا کرده و برای همین توجه به سرنوشت ، جهت گیری ، مشکلات و مسائل آنها بسیار مهم است و همه کشورها سعی می کنند به سرنوشت این دو قشر اهمیت ویژه ای دهند .

روز گارگر که در سراسر دنیا و کشور ما برگزار می شود نشانه توجه به نیروی کار و اهمیت آن است. از اول انقلاب هم رسم بر این بود که به این روز اهمیت داده شود و همینطور روز معلم که اهمیت آن از روز کارگر کمتر نیست و بنده می خواهم دراین پیام مختصر خطاب به شما مسائلی که برای سرنوشت این دوقشر و برای همه مردم ما مشترک هست را عرض کنم.

حقیقت این است که ما در شرایطی به این دو روز مهم نزدیک می شویم که کشور دارای بحران و مشکلات افتصادی ، سیاسی و اجتماعی وسیعی است و تک تک این بحران ها در سرنوشت و گذران زندگی این دوقشر منعکس شده و اثرات زیادی دارد.

بازار داخلی کشور به بیگانگان واگذار شده است

ما وضعیت اقتصادی کشور را می بینیم. تورم، پایین آمدن نرخ سرمایه گذاری ها، فساد، رواج دروغ و سو مدیریت ، حقوق معوقه کارگران و بیکاری روزافزون آنها، تعطیلی روزافزون کارخانه ها یا با ظرفیت پایین کار کردن کارخانه ها در حالی که بازارهای ملی ما پر از کالاهای خارجی شده و در حقیقت ما تمام بازار داخلی خودمان را در رابطه با کالا ، خدمات و سرمایه به بیگانه واگذار کردیم و همه می دانیم که این مساله تا چه اندازه در سرنوشت ملت ، استقلال و آزادی ما و همچنین در سرنوشت کارگران ما اثر می گذارد.

مسائل و مشکلات کارگران و معلمان با مسائل عمده کشور در ارتباط است

از سوی دیگر محدود کردن آزادی ها را داریم. بستن دهان ها ، بستن روزنامه ها و پر کردن زندانها و محدود کردن تشکل های صنفی و سیاسی را داریم که آن هاهم در سرنوشت کارگران ومعلمان اثر می گذارد. به همین علت مهم است که امسال کارگران و معلمان پی ببرند ( گرچه می دانم می دانند) مسائل و مشکلاتی که در زندگی روزمره لمس و درک می کنند با مسائل عمده کشور در ارتباط است و این ارتباط مستقیم است.

خواسته های کارگران و معلمان خواسته های اساسی و بنیادی کشور است

خواسته یک کارگر و یک معلم اگر با زبان حال گفته شود و خواسته طبیعی این دوقشر باشد باید توجه کنیم که خواسته های بسیار اساسی و بنیادی برای کل کشور است. کارگر و معلم چه می خواهد؟آنها می خواهند کشور توسعه پیدا کند. توسعه کشور به نفع آنها است.عدم توسعه کشور دودش به چشم همه ملت می رود. از همه مهمتر به چشم کارگران چه در بخش صنعتی و چه خدماتی ، چه در سطح روستاها یا هر جای دیگر و همینطور به چشم معلمان هم می رود.

معلمان و کارگران دنبال عدالت هم در سطح معیشتی و هم در سطح توزیع منزلت هستند

آنها آزادی می خواهند چرا که آزادی باعث می شود تشکل های صنفی و سیاسی خود را تشکیل دهند و فعالیت سیاسی کنند . راهی برای گشایش امور خود و ملت پیدا کنند. آنها دنبال عدالت هستند. چه عدالت در سطح معیشتی و اقتصادی و چه در سطح توزیع منزلت های اجتماعی. باعث می شود آنها بهتر بتوانند خدمت کنند و یهتر می توانند ثروت ایجاد کنند و بهتر می توانند از اقتصاد کشور دفاع کنند و با فعالیت خود در صنعت و بازار و از استقلال کشور دفاع کنند و همچنین در توزیع منزلت آنها موقعیتی پیدا می کنند که از ایده های مترقی و پیشروانه در سطح کشور حمایت کنند.

منزلت معلمان از نظر سیاسی تنزل پیدا کرده اما از نظر ملت تنزل نیافته

اول انقلاب با این ایده شروع شد. یادمان باشد که در مجلس اول اکثر نمایندگان معلم بودند. شهید رجایی و شهید باهنر و شهید مطهری معلم بودند. شریعتی را معلم می دانستیم و معلم هم هست. معلمی به گونه ای بود که باعث می شد فرد مورد اعتماد ملت قرار گیرد. اضافه کنم که اگر این منزلت از نظر سیاسی تنزل پیدا کرده از نظر ملت تنزل پیدا نکرده است. وقتی ما به گروه های مرجع رجوع کنیم می بینیم که معلمان و کارگران هنوز در رده های بالای گروه های مرجع قرار می گیرند و هنوز مورد اعتماد ملت هستند ولی در کشور اتفاقی افتاده که این منزلت آنچنان که اول انقلاب بود نیست. این منزلتی که اول انقلاب بود اجازه می داد که معلمان فضای نورانی و عمیقی را در ملت ایجاد کرده و یک نسل سرافراز را تربیت کنند و خود و کارگران در جبهه ها فراوان بودند. برعکس هم اکنون می بینیم برخی از معلمان و کارگران در زندان هستند و در آستانه این دوروز خیلی تلخ است که بخواهیم در این مورد صحبت کنیم.

به نفع کارگران و معلمان است که سیاست های خارجی متعادلی داشته باشیم

طبیعی است که اگر دقت کنیم در مورد آزادی، عدالت، توسعه و یا پیشرفت کشور یا سایر زمینه ها می بینیم به طور مثال همین دو قشر به شدت مخالف فساد هستند. آنها می دانند که وقتی بحث درآمدهای عظیم نفتی می شود و صدها میلیارد که قرار بود سر سفره مردم آورده شود آورده نمی شود و در عوض خبرها یی مبنی بر فساد ، ناپختگی و نارسایی در امور اقتصادی کشور می شنوند و می دانند که این به ضرر آنها و منافع آنهاست و به ضرر منافع ملی و به ضرر امنیت ملی و آتیه کشور است. به طور طبیعی ، هم صورت آگاهانه و هم به صورت زبان حال به نفع معلمان و کارگران هست که سیاست های خارجی متعادلی داشته باشیم. آنقدر ماجراآفرینی نکنیم. اینقدر بی برنامه پیش نرویم. اینقدر با بالا و پایین رفتن منافع ملی خود را به خطر نیاندازیم.

اقدامات خلاف تدبیر اثرات خود را سر سفره مردم نشان می دهد

با اسلحه و نیروی نظامی امنیت کشور حفظ نمی شود

بلافاصله این اقدامات خلاف تدبیر، تاثیر خود را روی سفره مردم نشان می دهد. عظمت یک کشور در دلبستگی و دلگرمی مردم نسبت به آینده خودشان است. نگاه و امیدواری که نسبت به آینده دارند. صرفا با اسلحه و نیروی نظامی امنیت یک کشور را نمی شود حفظ کرد. ما در زمان دفاع مقدس نه ارتش داشتیم و نه سپاه. اینها به مرور به وجود آمدند. ارتش که در واقع اول انقلاب از بین رفت و دوباره سازمان داده شد. خود سپاه و بسیج هم بعدا شکل گرفت. آن چیزی که باعث مقاومت ما در آن جنگ هشت ساله شد که یک سانتیمتر از خاک کشور خود را تسلیم دشمن نکردیم یقینا به دلیل اسلحه های زیاد ما نبود. دشمن ما اسلحه بیشتری داشت و بیشتر هم کمک در اختیار داشت و تمام خدمات ابزاری دنیا در اختیارش بود ولی ملت ما از جمله این قشر کارگر و معلم توانست مقاومت کند. این به دلیل دلگرمی مردم نسبت به آتیه نظام بود. ولی وقتی این اعتماد خدشه دار شود و وقتی بحث فساد پیش بیاید که پیگیری هم نشود و در مجلس هم برده شود و هیچ خبری هم نشود و ناگهان بحث آن فروکش کند و همچنین از اینجا و اونجا این مسائل شایع بشود طبیعی است که این باور و این دلگرمی را نسبت به نظام از دست بدهیم.

مسائل کارگران و معلمان جدا از مسائل ملت نیست

شما عزیزان و شما کارگران ومعلمان بدانید که مسائل شما مسائل همه ملت ماست و جدا نیست. شما اگر در تشکیل شوراهای مستقل صنفی مشکل دارید و هر حرکتی که می کنید با محدودیت و دستگیری ها روبرو می شوید و در فعالیت خود دچار مشکل هستید . سر کلاس که می روید با خوف و رجا می روید چون نمی دانید که آیا می توانید حرف حق را بزنید و در برابر دانشجویان و دانش آموزان از حق دفاع کنید. با سینه برآمده و سری افراشته از حق دفاع کنید و از سفیدی سفید و سیاهی سیاه شهادت دهید و کوتاه نیایید و وقتی در این زمینه دچار تزلزل و خوف می شوید طبیعی است که این مساله مساله ملی است و مساله همه ماست.

جنبش سبز راهی که در این زمینه در پیش می گیرد بر این اساس است و آن هم اینکه مسائل ما در گرو بسته ای از فعالیت ها است که مشکل حل شود. اینطوری نیست که مثلا یکبار این موضوع را با وعده و وعید حل کنیم و یک موقع با اقتصاد صدقه ای، بالا و پائین آوردن حقوق و یا مثلا موقع انتخابات که می شود فعالیتی کنیم و از این شاخه به اون شاخه بپریم. اینها مشکلات معلمانف کارگران، کارفرمایان و نه کارآفرینان مارا حل نمی کند.

راهی جز بازگشت به قانون اساسی نداریم

بنده اعتقاد دارم تنها راه، بازگشت به قانون اساسی است .برگشتی که برای تحقق بدون تنازل قانون اسای راهی پیش پای ما نیست. این کم هزینه ترین راه است. راهی است که می توانیم مشکلات خودمان را در سطح ملی حل کنیم. مشکلات بازارهای مسلمانی خودمان را حل کنیم که اینقدر از اجناس بنجل خارجی پر نشود. می توانیم از صنعت ملی خودمان دفاع کنیم برای اینکه در مقابل هجوم بازاهارهای خارجی مدفون نشویم. می توانیم از حقوق کارگران دفاع کنیم تا روز به روز از کار بی کار نشوند و حقوق معوقه کارمندان روی هم تلمبار نشود. با برگشت به قانون اساسی می توان از فساد جلوگیری کرد و با احیا حقوق مردم می توان مشکلات را برطرف کرد. بدون انتخابات آزاد ،غیر گزینشی، رقابتی و بدون آزادی مطبوعات و زندانی ها و تشکل ها جلوی رویمان راه دیگری وجود ندارد و رفتن به سمت قانون اساسی به نفع همه ملت است. به نفع همه کسانی که دل در گرو ملت خود دارند و عظمت ملت خود را می خواهند.

ما به مردم امضا دادیم قانون اساسی را اجرا کنیم

حقوق مردم فراموش شده ترین قسمت قانون اساسی است

این میثاق ملی ما است و عهدی که مردم و حکومت با هم بستند و هر نوع برگشت از این میثاق یک نوع خیانت در اعتماد مردم است. ما از مردم امضا گرفتیم و امضا دادیم که این قانون را بدون اجتهاد اجرا کنیم. اگر قسمت هایی از آن را ناکارآمد می دانیم باید آنرا اصلاح کنیم. قانون اساسی که وحی منزل نیست. ولی باید باز هم از راه قانون اساسی اقدام کنیم و حقوق مردم که فراموش شده ترین قسمت قانون اساسی است را باید رعایت کنیم که مشکلات یکی یکی حل شود و در آن موقعیت جایگاه معلمان و کارگران ما آنچنان که شایسته است در نظام حکومتی ما و جامعه ما انشالله احیا خواهد شد.

موفق باشید و این دوروز هم برشما و هم بر همه ملت ایران مبارک باشد.

Three other people lost their lives for the Green Movement. One is Mohammad Asghari, who was a computer expert and worked for the office of computer security at the Ministry of Interior. He leaked a considerable amount of information about the actual vote count after the rigged June 2009 election and mysteriously lost his life in a car accident soon thereafter. It is widely believed that he was murdered.

The other two are Mohammad Reza Ali Zamani (37) and Arash Rahmanipour (19). They had been arrested before the election, but were hanged in early January 2010 in what is widely believed to be a message to the supporters of the Green Movement that they too could be hanged. Neither one had committed any serious offense.

In addition, Dr. Masoud Ali-Mohammadi, professor of physics at the University of Tehran, was assassinated. There is considerable evidence that he was murdered by the hardliners, although this is not a certainty.

Thoughts on leadership and change in Iran

"Friends today I would like to express my humble opinion about some things I have noticed lately on #iranelection.
First let me say that eventho I would like to share my thoughts about this, I am very conscious that my opinion is not important, that it is the people inside Iran who will determine their future. Also I hope that none of my dear friends will interpret this as an attack on their opinions, because it isn't. I have great respect for their point of views, but I also wish to share my concerns with people on iranelection

Before adding anything else, let me explain again that I am 100% for secular democracy in Iran, but I think there is different ways to get there, and that a sudden change is not always the best. However in the present situation I simply cannot tell, it may or may not be the best plan. The islamic regime may disappear within a day, or it may take longer, it is the people inside Iran who will decide.

My position, for the time being, is not to be against, but to be cautious about, more or less unknown "leaders", and also about more known "leaders" who may have their own agendas, which may not be the best for Iran. Of course, just like most of you, I hope that Iran will be freed from the islamic regime soon, hopefully within a year, but I am being cautious because I worry that we may make the same mistakes as in 1979 and that we may be led to chose the wrong people as leaders, as long as they say the things we want to hear and are willing to topple the government. But this is not enough, we have to know who they are.

Let us not forget that Khomeini did say "the right things", the things people wanted to hear. He was what many would call "a strong leader", he was charismatic in his own way, but had his own agenda and led Iran to disaster. Before choosing someone as "leader", it is also good to know not only their past actions, but their personality as well. Get all the information possible, know what they have done, know their state of mind, know their agenda in details.

We also have to remember that eventho I believe our green friends, brothers, sisters, -the protesters - are the majority, and as much as I hope for secular democracy in Iran as soon as possible, there is still possibly a big minority who are happy to live under an islamic regime. Therefore whoever will find themselves in leadership positions will have to consider their voices as well, and will have to be somewhat "moderate", they will have a very difficult job trying to "balance" everything, and to keep everyone happy as much as possible, but hopefully will be able to avoid a neverending and bloody conflict among the good people inside Iran.

We have to remember how Shah, eventho he was an intelligent and modern man, and eventho he cared very much about his country and people, may have tried to change too many things too fast, at least for some people who may have felt threatened by so many changes (even if good) so quickly. I think we should remember this if we want to achieve a victory where all (or most) people will be able to live at peace with each other.

And finally, let us look back at history and make sure the same mistakes are not repeated. At the end of 1978, as the Shah's power was crumbling, because Shapour Bakhtiar had been a leader in the resistance, he was chosen to help in the creation of civilian government in place of the military one, which had existed up to this point. Although this caused him to be expelled from the National Front, he accepted the appointment, as he feared a revolution, in which communists and mullahs would take over the country, because he thought this would ruin Iran and was he right or was he right .... )

In his 36 days as premier of Iran, Bakhtiar ordered all political inmates to be freed, lifted censorship of newspapers (whose staff had until then been on strike), relaxed martial law, ordered the dissolving of SAVAK and requested that the opposition give him three months to hold elections for a constituent assembly that would decide the fate of the monarchy and determine the future form of government for Iran. Despite these conciliatory gestures, Ayatollah Khomeini refused to collaborate with Bakhtiar, denouncing the premier as a traitor for siding with the Shah, labeling his government "illegitimate" and "illegal" and calling for the overthrow of the Monarchy.

It is clear to me that Khomeini had his own agenda, which was not the best for Iran, but his own thirst for power. The one thing he knew well tho, is that we need unity to achieve victory, however, after using this unity to get himself in a position of leadership, he then broke his promises and eliminated all who got in his way. Let us not forget about that.

- Iranian diplomats abroad are loosing confidence in the regime. 27 envoys in Asia and Europe have resigned from their positions, but the regime has prevented this from coming out.

It’s Mohammed Reza Heydari who says this. He was consul at the Iranian embassy in Oslo until the end of the year when he quit his post in protest against the developments in Iran where the authorities now are cracking down on the popular opposition.

- 27 of my colleagues in Asia and Europe have resigned from their positions, but the regime has prevented them from coming out with this, says Heydari to Aftenposten.
Heydari openly criticized the regime after he broke with the embassy, and this triggered harsh reactions from the Iranian side.

- Before I went out publicly they threatened me. A delegation was sent from Tehran to talk to me. They wanted me to publicly deny everything I had said.

- You did not do it. Was it a difficult decision?

- Yes, they wanted me to tell them that everything I had said was a lie. Originally I wanted to resign and go home silently, but colleagues in Tehran told me to stay in Norway and speak out. But it was difficult. My family, especially my wife's brothers are under enormous pressure.

- Does your decision and the fact that colleagues in other countries also want to break with the regime, mean that it is now losing support?

- Yes, also in Tehran colleagues, regular employees in the Foreign Service, have taken part in demonstrations on the people's side. 32 were arrested, and 12 are still in prison.

- How should the West react to Iran?

- It is important for the Iranian people that you condemn the actions. These condemnations must continue. Now the U.S. and EU for the first time condemn Iran for human rights violations rather than criticize the nuclear program.

- Are political protests enough. Would not economic sanctions be more effective?

- The most important thing is to stop the regime’s terror and violence. Economic sanctions must not harm the people, but those in power and the regime. My suggestion is that Western countries do not give representatives of the regime entry permits and do not have talks with them. Bank accounts in Western banks may be blocked. And it is very important that the EU and other countries do not allow children of those in power to come to the West to study when Iranian students are being thrown out of universities, abused and killed in the street.

- You talk about those in power. The religious leadership and the Revolutionary Guards are the two power factors today. And the Guards control important parts of the Iranian economy. Is it possible to target the them directly?

- Several companies that are controlled by the Revolutionary Guards are operating in the United States and Europe. They do not do this openly, but it is up to western intelligence to figure out who they are, and shut them down, block bank accounts and not give entry permits to the Revolutionary Guards people. They buy equipment that are meant for civil purposes, but use it for military purposes.

Heydari broke with Iran in protest against the oppression, and he regards Mir Hossein Mousavi who lined up in the presidential election last summer as an important person in the current situation.

- But what does the opposition want. How many want change within the framework of the regime, and how many want to remove it?

- The opposition who are gathered under the green movement, include all strata of people, and democracy is the goal: release of political prisoners, free speech, free political parties, prevention of human rights violations, securing women's rights, free press and free elections under international control.

- Free elections must mean that there will be a regime change?

- It does. The Iranian people no longer want a religious regime.

- Will the Revolutionary Guards remain loyal in a settlement between the regime and the opposition?

- It has a small but powerful leadership, and many soldiers and members among ordinary people. Those who are further down in the system, will not be loyal when it comes to a settlement, says Mohammed Reza Heydari.

Asylum case creates a diplomatic crisis between Norway and Iran

(Dagbladet): Norway's granting of political asylum to the former Iranian top diplomat Mohammed Reza Heydari has led to a diplomatic crisis.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Norwegian ambassador in Tehran was summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry in late February.

Here Ambassador Roald Næss was handed a letter in which Iran protested against Norway’s granting of asylum to Heydari.

The Iranian foreign ministry also required that a Norwegian diplomat should leave Iran.

This aroused strong reactions in Norway.

- It is a completely unacceptable response from the Iranian side. The right to seek asylum is pursuant to international conventions, said Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in the press release.

- Heydari’s asylum application was considered on an individual basis, and the relevant immigration authorities have decided that he satisfies the conditions for asylum in Norway

Leaving Tehran
The Foreign Ministry dismissed the protests and demanded in return that an Iranian diplomat should leave Norway.

- We do not want to identify the Norwegian or the Iranian diplomat, said Communications Advicer Kjetil Elsebutangen to Dagbladet and elaborated:

- Iranian authorities have made it very clear that their reaction is a reaction against the Norwegian government and not against individuals. This is also the case for the Norwegian authorities.

According to Elsebutangen the Norwegian diplomat will comply with the requirement and leave the country.

- It is not appropriate that he continues his work at the Norwegian Embassy in Iran. But it is important to emphasize that he is thus not "persona non grata" in Iran (unwanted person jour. Note).

Defected
Heydari worked as a consul at the Iranian Embassy in Norway until the beginning of the year when he chose to terminate his position in protest against the human rights violations and the oppression in his country.

In an interview with Dagbladet the diplomat said that the Iranian authorities had refused to accept his resignation.

According to his account, they tried both to threaten and lure him into withdrawing his resignation and his regime-critical statements about the government in Iran.

He feared for his life if he returned to Iran and decided to seek political asylum in Norway.

The asylum application was granted in mid-February.

- We asked for and received a very quick processing by the UDI. We are very, very happy, said a spokesman for the Norwegian-Iranian Support Committee, Saki Rahman to Dagbladet when the decision was announced.

Mohammad Reza Heydari, former consul of Iran in Oslo, and his family, have been granted political asylum in Norway.

Heydari’s case was given express processing in the Directorate of Immigration (UDI).

The former consul was glad when he received the message. “I feel that the Norwegian authorities by doing this are supporting the Iranian opposistion’s struggle for freedom", he said.

Heydari resigned from his post as consul at the Iranian Embassy in December. He has since been criticizing the Iranian authorities openly. The former consul has a spouse and two sons in Norway.

He applied for political asylum because he wants to take part in the Iranian freedom struggle.

- "As of today I consider myself to be a politically independent human rights activist, and I will continue the cooperation with other activists to combat human rights violations in Iran", says Mohammad Reza Heydari.
